SBB Houston Golf Classic Raises $100,000 for Children’s Cancer Fund, Inspiring Hope for Families Across Texas

May 20 2026

SBB Community Management’s 2nd Annual Houston Golf Classic recently raised an impressive $100,000 for Children’s Cancer Fund (CCF), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children battling cancer and advancing pediatric cancer research in Texas. For residents in Savannah Place, which is professionally managed by SBB Community Management, the effort offers a glimpse into the ways the company stays involved in causes that support the broader community, both on and off the course.

Held Friday, May 15, 2026, at BlackHorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas, the tournament brought together SBB leadership, HOA board members, vendors, contractors, and community partners for a day centered on giving back and supporting children and families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.

“What an incredible day,” said Vanessa Burch, President of SBB Community Management, in a post following the event. “We are thrilled to announce that the SBB 2nd Annual Houston Golf Classic raised $100,000 for Children’s Cancer Fund and we couldn't have done it without the generosity, energy, and heart of everyone who showed up for this great cause.”

The annual tournament continues a tradition of philanthropy that began in 2009 when Fred Shapiro launched the SBB Golf Classic as a way to give back to the community. Over the years, the event has grown into a meaningful partnership between SBB, industry professionals, and local organizations working together to support children and families affected by cancer.

Supporting Children in Their Fight Against Cancer

Children’s Cancer Fund, based in Dallas, has spent decades helping children and families facing pediatric cancer diagnoses while also investing in life-saving research and treatment advancements.

Founded in 1982 by a group of parents whose children were receiving cancer treatment at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the organization was created from firsthand experience with the emotional and financial toll childhood cancer places on families. Over time, community leaders, medical professionals, volunteers, and advocates joined the mission, helping CCF become one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations supporting pediatric cancer research and compassionate care.

Today, CCF works closely with Children’s Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center, both nationally recognized leaders in pediatric oncology research and treatment. Through strategic fundraising efforts and community partnerships, the nonprofit helps fund innovative research, improve treatment methods, and provide emotional and social support programs for children and their families.

Beyond research investments, the organization also creates opportunities for children undergoing treatment to simply enjoy being kids through family-centered events, social gatherings, and supportive experiences that help families connect with others walking similar journeys.

Their vision is simple but powerful: creating a brighter future for children with cancer by investing in innovation, inspiring hope, and supporting compassionate care.

The Reality of Childhood Cancer

According to Children’s Cancer Fund, cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. Every day, approximately 43 children are diagnosed with cancer, and more than 40,000 children undergo treatment each year.

The average age of diagnosis is just six years old.

While survival rates for childhood cancers have improved significantly over the past several decades — rising from about 50% thirty years ago to nearly 80% today — many forms of pediatric cancer still have cure rates below 50%, highlighting the continued need for research funding and treatment advancements.

One major challenge is funding. All pediatric cancers combined receive less than 4% of federal cancer research funding, despite the long-term health complications many survivors continue to face well into adulthood.

Children’s Cancer Fund supports research and treatment efforts related to a wide range of pediatric cancers, including leukemia, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, lymphoma, bone cancers, Wilms tumor, and rhabdomyosarcoma.

In Texas alone, more than 300 children and adolescents at Children’s Medical Center Dallas are newly diagnosed with cancer every year, while more than 650 children are receiving treatment at any given time.

Community Partnerships Making a Difference

The success of the SBB Houston Golf Classic was made possible through the support of sponsors, volunteers, and industry partners who came together to make a tangible impact for children and families across Texas.

Major sponsors for the 2026 event included:

  • Impact Networking, LLC
  • Brady, Chapman, Holland & Associates
  • kiloWatt Partners Inc
  • Texan Landscaping Rivera LLC
  • IMS Landscape Services, Inc.
  • Global Strategic Business Process Solutions

Burch also thanked SBB board members, the SBB Houston team, and the Children’s Cancer Fund staff for helping bring the event together.

“This event is truly a team effort,” Burch shared. “We are deeply grateful to our dedicated Board Members, the incredible SBB Community Management-Houston staff, and the entire CCF team for bringing this vision to life year after year.”

A Cause That Resonates Beyond the Golf Course

For residents in Savannah Place, the tournament reflects the kind of community involvement that goes beyond day-to-day neighborhood management, bringing people together to support children and families facing pediatric cancer.

The fundraiser also serves as a reminder that local businesses, HOA leaders, service providers, and residents can collectively create lasting impact when they rally around a shared mission.

As pediatric cancer continues affecting thousands of families each year, organizations like Children’s Cancer Fund rely heavily on community-driven fundraising events like this one to continue investing in research, treatment innovation, and family support services.

And for the children and families navigating cancer treatments, every dollar raised represents more than funding — it represents hope.
