Typhoon Texas Houston Launches 2026 Season with Memorial Day Weekend Beach Bash in Katy

May 22 2026

For many Katy-area families, Memorial Day weekend marks more than just the beginning of summer break — it signals the return of one of the region’s most recognizable warm-weather traditions. Typhoon Texas Houston is officially reopening for the 2026 season with its annual “Welcome Back Beach Bash,” a two-day celebration designed to bring neighbors, students, parents, and visitors together after another busy school year.

Taking place May 23-24, the event will once again transform the Katy waterpark into a hub of family-friendly entertainment, live music, and summer activities as thousands of guests head to the attraction near Katy Mills Mall.

Located at 555 Katy Fort Bend Road, just west of the Grand Parkway, Typhoon Texas has become a seasonal destination for families throughout Katy, Fulshear, Cypress, Richmond, Cinco Ranch, and west Houston looking for a close-to-home summer getaway without leaving the region.

A Katy Summer Tradition Returns

The Welcome Back Beach Bash has grown into one of the park’s signature opening weekend events, especially for families eager to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer vacation together.

Guests visiting during Memorial Day weekend can enjoy more than 30 water slides and attractions throughout the park, including the lazy river, wave pool, thrill rides, and interactive children’s play areas designed for younger guests.

“Welcome Back Beach Bash has become a tradition for families looking to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer together,” said John Pham, Vice President of Marketing for Typhoon Texas. “We’re excited to welcome guests back for another unforgettable season filled with fun, excitement, and lasting memories.”

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24.

As temperatures continue rising across southeast Texas, the reopening also signals the return of one of Katy’s major seasonal entertainment destinations — something many local families plan their summers around each year.

Water Attractions, Entertainment, and Family-Friendly Fun

Typhoon Texas Houston continues to be one of the largest waterparks serving the west Houston and Katy area, offering attractions for a wide range of ages and comfort levels.

In addition to high-speed water slides and large-scale attractions, the park features more relaxed options like floating the lazy river or cooling off in the wave pool. Families with younger children can also take advantage of interactive splash zones and play structures tailored for smaller guests.

The Memorial Day weekend bash will also include live music and additional entertainment throughout the park, helping create the energetic atmosphere many returning visitors associate with the start of summer in Katy.

For local parents, the reopening arrives just as schools across Katy ISD and surrounding districts begin dismissing students for summer break, making the timing especially popular for families looking to kick off the season together.

Convenient Location for Katy and West Houston Families

Part of Typhoon Texas Houston’s appeal has long been its convenient location for residents throughout the rapidly growing Katy area. Situated next to Katy Mills Mall and approximately 1.5 miles west of SH 99/Grand Parkway, the park is easily accessible from many master-planned communities throughout west Houston and Fort Bend County.

The park also offers several amenities families often look for when planning full-day outings, including free onsite parking, complimentary tubes, and free life jackets.

As Katy continues experiencing significant residential growth, family entertainment destinations like Typhoon Texas remain an important part of the area’s evolving community identity — offering residents gathering spaces and shared traditions that often become part of family routines year after year.
