Save the Date: Kids' Track and Field Season Kicks Off on February 4th, 2023

December 05 2022

Do you have a child that is interested in the sport of track and field?  Plan to attend the Northwest Flyers Track Club’s season orientation and breakfast event at 8:30 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023.  It will take place at Crossover Bible Fellowship, 12332 Perry Rd., Houston, TX, 77070.

The Northwest Flyers, one of the leading youth track clubs in the country, is a member program of USA Track And Field (USATF), which is the national governing body for track, cross country, and the U.S. Olympic team. Olympic gold medalist Fred Newhouse founded the club in 1987 to foster the development of youth track and field in the northwest Harris County area.  The club will celebrate its 36th anniversary season in 2023 and offers a full range of track and field events for boys and girls ages 6 – 18.

More About Northwest Flyers

The Northwest Flyers provides a full program of sanctioned “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance, relays and sanctioned “field” events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, shot put and javelin.  The club averages about 250 athletes per season and is slightly smaller than some Houston based clubs.  However, bigger is not always better and our size allows coaches to give athletes individual instruction and guidance. The leadership fosters teamwork, mutual respect, encouragement, and a fun family atmosphere. Their mission is to foster the development of youth track and field in Houston and surrounding areas and to provide long-term growth opportunities to athletes through their association with the sport.

Their youth development philosophy is balanced and not overly obsessed with winning.  However, the achievements of the club are impressive, with more than one-third of our athletes qualifying for the Texas State Championships and the National Junior Olympics Championships.  More importantly, over 95% of their athletes have gone on to college and many have received academic and/or athletic scholarships. The Northwest Flyers is a member of the “Win With Integrity Champion” program, a partnership between USATF and the American College of Sports Medicine.  “Win With Integrity” brings elite track and field athletes and school-aged kids together to promote healthy lifestyles, keeping active, and living with integrity through the sport of track and field.

The Northwest Flyers Track Club is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and non-profit organization.  We offer some hardship scholarships to eligible youth who wish to participate in the program.
