La Cocina’s 19th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser Returns to Richmond, Supporting Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels
For many families across Fort Bend County, ensuring aging loved ones have consistent meals and daily connection is a growing concern. That’s why events like La Cocina Mexican Restaurant and Catering’s 19th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser in Richmond, Texas carry meaning far beyond a night out—they help sustain critical services that thousands of local seniors rely on every day.
Set for Saturday, May 2 from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m., the long-running event—presented by H-E-B—is expected to welcome nearly 300 guests for an evening centered on food, music, and giving back. Proceeds directly benefit Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit that delivers daily meals and wellness checks to homebound seniors across Fort Bend and Waller counties.
What began in 2005 as a small effort after La Cocina owner Andres Novoa recognized a growing need has since become one of the organization’s most impactful annual fundraisers, raising more than $700,000 to date.
More Than Meals: Why This Event Matters Locally
Behind the celebration is a deeper, ongoing need. Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, founded in 1974, plays a vital role in helping seniors remain independent in their homes. The organization provides more than just food—it offers daily wellness checks, transportation services, and opportunities for social connection, helping reduce both hunger and isolation among aging residents.
In 2025 alone, the organization delivered more than 369,000 meals and supported over 2,100 seniors, all at no cost to those served. For many recipients—especially those living alone—these visits may be their only consistent human interaction of the day.

That growing demand has been met with increasing challenges.
“Rising costs and reductions in government funding over the last 12 months have made community support more important than ever,” said Andres Novoa, owner of La Cocina. “We’re proud to continue this tradition and invite everyone to come out, enjoy a great evening, and crush hunger for seniors in our community. Our seniors need us more than ever!”
A Night Designed to Bring People Together
The Cinco de Mayo fundraiser has evolved into a signature Richmond community event, blending celebration with purpose. Attendees can expect La Cocina’s signature Tex-Mex cuisine, along with a full lineup of interactive experiences, including:
- A live auction
- Bucket raffles
- A “Pay What You Pull” opportunity featuring a Burberry handbag
The event’s continued success reflects not only strong community participation but also a shared commitment to supporting local seniors.
“We are incredibly grateful to Andres and the entire La Cocina team for their unwavering commitment to our seniors,” said Doug Simpson, CEO of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. “For nearly two decades, this event has not only raised critical funds but also brought our community together in a powerful way. Andres’ generosity and leadership have made a lasting impact on the lives of the seniors we serve.”
