Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center Celebrates 10 Years With Birthday Bash Filled With Soccer Fun, Confetti and Hands-On Play
For many Fort Bend County families, the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center has become more than just a museum over the last decade. It’s been a place where toddlers discovered science through play, young students explored creativity hands-on, and parents created lasting family memories close to home.
Now, the Sugar Land destination is preparing to celebrate a major milestone.
The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center — A Very Special Project of Children’s Museum Houston — will mark its 10th anniversary with a community-wide birthday celebration beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, featuring music, confetti, circus performers, interactive activities and special discounts for families.
Located in the Historic Imperial Market district at 198 Kempner St. in Sugar Land, the Discovery Center has welcomed nearly 900,000 visitors over the past 10 years while serving as a hub for educational play, STEAM learning and family engagement throughout Fort Bend County.
A Celebration Rooted in Community
The milestone event arrives at a time when many families continue searching for affordable, educational and screen-free experiences for children during the summer months. Organizers say the birthday bash is designed to celebrate not only the museum’s growth, but also the families, educators and community partners who helped shape it over the past decade.
“Reaching this milestone is incredibly meaningful because it represents 10 years of shared memories, transformative experiences, and partnerships which helped make the Discovery Center a true perfect 10,” said Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center CEO Rayanne Darensbourg. “What began as a bold vision a decade ago has grown into a vibrant community treasure shaped by the laughter, imagination, and curiosity of the children and families we serve every day.”
The celebration will include a “Goal Rush 10-Kicks Birthday Ceremony” inspired by the global excitement surrounding major soccer events coming to the Houston area. During the ceremony, members of the Discovery Center’s Kids’ Committee will score 10 soccer balls into a net in recognition of the museum’s 10-year milestone.
Youth actress, singer, author and Kids’ Committee member Olivia Genesis will serve as master of ceremonies for the birthday celebration.
What Families Can Expect at the 10th Birthday Bash
The family-friendly event will feature activities throughout the Discovery Center designed to keep children engaged from morning through early afternoon.
Highlights include:
- DJ Tyler’s Ultimate Birthday Jam with music, games and dance activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Balloon animal creations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- A special birthday ceremony and confetti celebration at 11 a.m.
- Roaming performances by Mr. Cirque featuring juggling and circus-inspired entertainment from noon to 2 p.m.
Families attending the event will also receive 10% off admission on May 30. In addition, the Discovery Center is offering 10% off museum memberships through June 30 using promo code FBCDC10 online at childrensdiscoveryfb.org.
Membership benefits include reciprocal access to both the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center and Children’s Museum Houston, along with year-round educational programming and special events.
Supporting Learning Beyond the Classroom
Over the past decade, the Discovery Center has grown into one of Fort Bend County’s leading destinations for early childhood enrichment and interactive education.
Its exhibits and programs are built around TEKS and national educational standards, encouraging children to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills through play-based learning. The museum now serves more than 100,000 children and more than 7,000 families annually.
The organization has also expanded outreach efforts through bilingual programming, sensory-friendly experiences, parenting resources and field trip opportunities for Title I schools and underserved communities across the region.
