Katy ISD Trustees Approve Feeder Pattern Shift for LUZ 60C and 60D Families

Katy ISD Trustees Approve Feeder Pattern Shift for LUZ 60C and 60D Families

May 13 2025

In a move aimed at balancing student populations and improving operational efficiency, the Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees officially approved a key Attendance Boundary Modification (ABM) during its regular board meeting on Monday, May 12. The change impacts students currently zoned to Cinco Ranch Junior High, redirecting them to Tays Junior High beginning with the 2025–2026 school year.

Community Voices Shape the Outcome

The modification affects families residing in Land Use Zones (LUZ) 60C and 60D. Katy ISD initiated the proposal in March 2025 and proactively engaged stakeholders by circulating a community survey. The district reported that 74 percent of respondents supported the change, reflecting a strong preference for realignment. Meanwhile, 20 percent expressed opposition to the shift, emphasizing concerns or desires to maintain existing campus assignments.

What the Boundary Change Means for Families

The adjustment means that starting in August 2025, students from LUZ 60C and 60D will transition from attending Cinco Ranch Junior High to Tays Junior High. The re-zoning aligns with districtwide efforts to accommodate growth and optimize facility usage in the fast-expanding Cinco Ranch area.

While changes in school boundaries often stir mixed emotions, the board’s decision follows a data-driven and community-informed process, consistent with the district's commitment to transparency and long-term planning.

A Forward-Looking District Strategy

Attendance boundary modifications are not uncommon in Katy ISD, one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state. The district frequently reassesses its zoning to manage crowding, respond to population shifts, and ensure equitable access to educational resources. This latest change comes amid sustained residential development across the west Katy area.

District leaders have emphasized that impacted families will be notified directly, and transition planning will ensure a smooth start for students in their new school environment come August.
