A Turkey for Every Table: Katy Christian Ministries Launches 2025 Holiday Meal Drive to Combat Hunger in Katy

October 13 2025

As Thanksgiving approaches, Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) has officially launched its annual “A Turkey for Every Table” campaign, aiming to provide 3,000 holiday meals to local families and veterans struggling with food insecurity. With the cost of living on the rise and many households still facing economic hardship, the need in the Katy area is greater than ever.

Donations of frozen turkeys, hams, and other holiday food staples are being accepted now through December 18 at the KCM Food Pantry located at 3506 Porter Road in Katy. The community is also invited to make financial contributions online at ktcm.org/turkey.

“Our mission is to ensure that families and veterans struggling to make ends meet can still experience the joy of a holiday meal,” said Debbie Palomo, Food Pantry Director for Katy Christian Ministries. “The holidays can be especially difficult for those already facing hardship. A shared meal can bring a sense of dignity, comfort, and hope.”

Last year, KCM’s Turkey Drive helped distribute over 1,200 turkeys. This year, the nonprofit is setting its sights even higher—hoping to more than double that number and reach 3,000 families. The initiative is especially focused on ensuring that veterans and food pantry clients are not forgotten during the holiday season.

The timing of this campaign is critical. According to Feeding America and local partner agencies, approximately 1 in 6 households in the Greater Katy area face food insecurity, with even higher rates among families with children and senior citizens. The Katy Independent School District has also reported a growing number of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch programs, with nearly 40% of students currently qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

Founded in 1984 by a coalition of nine local churches during an economic downturn, Katy Christian Ministries has grown into one of the region’s most impactful nonprofit organizations. Today, KCM operates four facilities and serves residents across Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties—regardless of religious background or affiliation. Their mission extends far beyond seasonal food drives, encompassing 20 different support programs through four core divisions: Social Services, Food Pantry, Crisis Center, and Resale Stores.

Through its Food Pantry, KCM provides year-round hunger relief to hundreds of households each week. The organization also offers emergency financial assistance, domestic and sexual abuse recovery programs, veterans support services, and other resiliency-building initiatives like financial coaching, school supply drives, and mental health counseling.

But the Turkey Drive remains one of KCM’s most visible and unifying efforts.

“This is where our community comes together,” said Palomo. “Whether it’s a $25 donation, a frozen turkey dropped off at our pantry, or volunteering your time—every act of kindness helps us put food on someone’s table.”

Those interested in helping can drop off frozen turkeys and hams directly at the KCM Food Pantry during business hours, or make secure donations online at ktcm.org/turkey. Businesses, churches, and neighborhood groups are also encouraged to host food drives or become sponsors.
