Katy ISD Opens Kindergarten Enrollment for 2026–2027 School Year
For families in Katy preparing to take that all-important first step into public education, Katy ISD has officially opened kindergarten enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year. Online registration began February 2 and will remain open through Wednesday, June 26.
This annual milestone marks more than just the start of school—it’s the beginning of a child’s journey toward independence, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Katy ISD kindergarten programs are designed to blend rigorous academic preparation with creative play, hands-on exploration, and social-emotional development—all in a safe and welcoming environment.
Parents from across the district have praised Katy ISD’s approach to early education, especially the emphasis on nurturing confidence and curiosity in young learners. "My child has gained a strong foundation in kindergarten thanks to the excellent teachers and supportive environment," said Mamatha Prasanna, a parent at Griffin Elementary. "This first year helped build confidence, independence and a genuine love for learning."

Jenks Elementary parent Mandi Andrews echoed the sentiment, sharing, "From the very first day, my child felt welcomed, safe and excited to learn. The teachers are caring, patient and incredibly dedicated. We’ve seen tremendous growth in confidence, curiosity and love of learning."
Katy ISD's full-day kindergarten program prioritizes both academic excellence and developmental readiness. Students engage in literacy, numeracy, science, and technology, while also participating in art, music, and physical education. Each day is carefully structured to build foundational skills while fostering creativity and collaboration.
To support families during this transition, the district is hosting Kindergarten Open Houses and Round-Up events at individual campuses starting in mid-March and continuing through April. These events offer parents and students an opportunity to meet teachers, tour classrooms, and better understand what to expect in the coming year.

“Kindergarten should feel welcoming, engaging and joyful,” said Celeste Ferranti, Katy ISD’s Elementary ELAR and Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator. “Our Kindergarten Round-Up events help families and students feel confident about the transition by offering a preview of the school environment and sparking excitement for learning.”
To be eligible, children must turn five years old on or before September 1, 2026. Registration is conducted entirely online via the Katy ISD enrollment portal, and families will need to submit documents such as proof of residency, immunization records, and a birth certificate.
