Katy ISD Opens High School Limited Open Enrollment for Fall 2026, Expanding Access to One of Texas' Top-Rated School Districts

For many families living just outside Katy ISD's attendance boundaries, attending one of Texas' most sought-after public school districts has long felt out of reach. Beginning this fall, that opportunity is expanding.

Katy Independent School District has officially launched its High School Limited Open Enrollment program for the 2026-27 school year, allowing eligible high school students who live in neighboring counties to apply for transfer admission to designated Katy ISD campuses where space is available.

The new initiative gives qualifying public, private, charter and home-schooled students an opportunity to attend one of the highest-performing school districts in Texas while broadening educational options for families across the greater Houston region.

Why Katy ISD's High School Limited Open Enrollment Matters

For families exploring school choice in the Houston area, the new program provides another pathway into a district widely recognized for its academic performance, student achievement and extensive extracurricular opportunities.

Katy ISD has consistently earned recognition as the highest-rated school district in the Houston metropolitan area and is known for combining rigorous academics with championship athletics, nationally recognized fine arts programs and career-focused learning experiences.

Rather than relocating into district boundaries, eligible families living in neighboring counties may now have an opportunity to access those programs through the District's High School Limited Open Enrollment process, subject to campus capacity.

"For generations, families have chosen Katy ISD because of our commitment to excellence in academics, student support and extracurriculars," Superintendent Ken Gregorski said. "Our High School Limited Open Enrollment offers an opportunity for more students to experience the world-class education, exceptional programs and life-changing opportunities that have made Katy ISD one of the most sought-after school districts in Texas."

What Educational Opportunities Are Available?

Students accepted through the transfer program may have access to many of the academic and extracurricular opportunities that have helped define Katy ISD's reputation.

Those opportunities include:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) coursework
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs
  • Dual-credit courses offered through Houston City College
  • Nationally recognized fine arts programs
  • UIL athletics and extracurricular activities
  • Virtual learning opportunities
  • Flexible school-day pathways designed to meet a variety of student needs and postsecondary goals

For many students, those options can provide additional opportunities to earn college credit, explore career fields before graduation and participate in award-winning programs outside the traditional classroom.

Who Can Apply?

According to Katy ISD, eligible students attending public, private, charter or home schools who reside in neighboring counties may apply for transfer consideration to participating Katy ISD high schools.

Placement is based on residency, proximity to participating campuses and available space. Admission is not guaranteed and depends on campus enrollment capacity.

Families interested in determining eligibility and reviewing participating campuses are encouraged to visit the Katy ISD High School Limited Open Enrollment webpage for application requirements, deadlines and additional program details.

Expanding Educational Choices Across the Greater Houston Area

As the Houston region continues to grow, more families are exploring educational options that align with their children's academic interests, career aspirations and extracurricular goals.

Katy ISD's High School Limited Open Enrollment program reflects that growing demand by creating additional opportunities for qualifying students while maintaining enrollment limits based on campus capacity.
