Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels to Honor Late County Judge Bob Hebert With Special Van Dedication in Rosenberg

Katy / Fulshear
October 09 2026

For hundreds of older adults across Fort Bend and Waller counties, a knock at the door from a Meals on Wheels volunteer means much more than receiving a nutritious meal. It can also mean a friendly conversation, a reassuring wellness check, and the comfort of knowing someone in the community cares.

That spirit of service will take on special meaning Friday, October 16, 2026, when Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels dedicates a meal delivery van in memory of former Fort Bend County Judge Robert "Bob" Hebert, honoring a longtime public servant whose commitment to the community continued well beyond his years in elected office.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the nonprofit organization's administrative offices, located at 1330 Band Road in Rosenberg, Texas. Community members, friends, and supporters are invited to attend alongside members of the Hebert family and Fort Bend Seniors staff and leadership.

The van will become a traveling tribute to Hebert, who passed away in August 2026 after a career that included 16 years as Fort Bend County Judge and important leadership roles with the local nonprofit.

Remembering Judge Bob Hebert's Commitment to Fort Bend County

For many Fort Bend County residents, Judge Bob Hebert was a familiar name in local government. His 16 years as county judge placed him in a leadership position during an important period in the county's development, but his involvement in community service also extended to organizations working directly with residents in need.

Among those organizations was Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, where Hebert served as both a member of the Board of Directors and interim chief executive officer.

During a period of leadership transition, Hebert helped guide the nonprofit as it continued providing essential services to older adults throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties.

His work with the organization reflected a commitment to public service that reached beyond government offices and into the everyday lives of residents who rely on community support.

"Judge Hebert believed in leaving every organization he served better than he found it, and he certainly did that for Fort Bend Seniors," said Doug Simpson, CEO of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. "This van is a fitting tribute to his legacy. Every meal delivered and every senior visited will be a reminder of his dedication to serving others."

Rather than honoring Hebert with a tribute that remains in one location, Fort Bend Seniors has chosen something that will continue serving the community. The dedicated van will travel through neighborhoods across the organization's service area, helping deliver meals and personal connections to older adults who may otherwise have limited opportunities for regular interaction.

More Than a Meal: How Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels Supports Local Older Adults

Founded on the mission of helping older adults maintain their independence and quality of life, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization serving eligible seniors throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties.

Its services address challenges that can become increasingly difficult with age, including preparing nutritious meals, finding reliable transportation, maintaining social connections, and remaining safely at home.

For homebound seniors, the organization's meal delivery program provides nutritious food along with wellness checks and opportunities for friendly interaction. These visits can be especially meaningful for older residents who live alone or have limited mobility.

The organization also operates six senior centers, offering meals, activities, transportation, and opportunities for older adults to spend time with others.

These programs serve an important purpose in communities such as Rosenberg, Richmond, Sugar Land, Katy, Fulshear, and surrounding areas, where families may be balancing work, caregiving responsibilities, and the needs of aging parents or relatives.

For some families, knowing that a loved one receives a regular visit through Meals on Wheels can provide additional reassurance. For seniors, those visits can help preserve a sense of independence while keeping them connected to the community around them.

Fort Bend Seniors provides its services at no cost to eligible older adults, with financial support from community supporters helping make those programs possible.
