Houston Methodist Breaks Ground on New 24-Hour Emergency Care Center at Texas Heritage Marketplace in Katy

Katy / Fulshear
October 08 2026

Texas Heritage Marketplace is becoming known for the major retailers, restaurants and new businesses taking shape along the Katy Freeway. Now, one of the area's most anticipated commercial developments is adding something that could make a meaningful difference for local families when they need it most: around-the-clock emergency medical care.

Houston Methodist officially broke ground Wednesday, October 7, on a new Emergency Care Center at 29133 Katy Freeway in Katy, bringing 24-hour emergency services, advanced medical imaging and experienced emergency physicians to the growing area near Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway.

The approximately $10 million facility is expected to be completed in summer 2027, giving residents of western Katy and surrounding communities another option for emergency medical treatment close to home.

New Houston Methodist Emergency Care Center Will Offer 24/7 Services in Katy

The planned 11,150-square-foot, single-story facility will feature 10 exam rooms and provide emergency medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Houston Methodist says the center will be equipped with CT imaging, X-ray equipment and on-site laboratory services, allowing physicians to evaluate and diagnose a range of medical emergencies without requiring patients to travel to a traditional hospital emergency department for those initial services.

Around-the-clock staffing will include a board-certified emergency medicine physician, emergency nurses and a radiology technician, with an ultrasound technician available on call.

For families living in the expanding neighborhoods west of Katy, having another emergency care location nearby could be especially valuable when an unexpected illness or injury requires immediate medical attention.

"This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding access to high-quality care in some of our region’s fastest-growing communities," said Carl Little, CEO of Houston Methodist West Hospital and senior vice president at Houston Methodist. "In an emergency, seconds matter. The ECC ensures that patients in Katy and surrounding areas can receive critical lifesaving care closer to home, without risking unnecessary delays."

Unlike a traditional urgent care clinic, which generally treats less serious illnesses and injuries, the new Houston Methodist Katy Emergency Care Center will be a freestanding emergency facility staffed by clinicians trained to evaluate and treat medical emergencies.

Another Major Addition to Katy's $400 Million Texas Heritage Marketplace

The Houston Methodist project is the latest healthcare investment planned for Texas Heritage Marketplace, the massive 165-acre mixed-use development taking shape near Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway.

Developed by NewQuest Properties, the approximately $400 million project has been years in the making and is transforming a large stretch of land on Katy's western edge into a regional destination for shopping, dining, services and future residential development.

The project was originally announced with plans for approximately 750,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, nearly 300,000 square feet of medical office space and approximately 550 apartment units. As leasing and construction have progressed, the development's retail plans have expanded.

Major retailers associated with Texas Heritage Marketplace include Target, Lowe's, Sam's Club, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Burlington and Ulta Beauty.

Restaurants and other businesses announced for the development include Whataburger, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Spec's, EoS Fitness, Chase Bank, James Avery, Mattress Firm and The Kebab Shop. Individual businesses are progressing through different stages of development, with openings occurring in phases.

One of the development's more distinctive features is Heritage Grove, a planned gathering area centered around a preserved, centuries-old live oak tree. The space is designed to incorporate restaurants, outdoor seating, green space and pedestrian-friendly areas, giving the large commercial development a place where neighbors can spend time together beyond shopping.

While much of the attention surrounding Texas Heritage Marketplace has focused on shopping and dining, Houston Methodist's new emergency care center introduces another important component to the project.

As thousands of families continue moving into communities along the western Katy corridor, access to medical services is becoming an increasingly important part of the area's infrastructure. The addition of an emergency care facility alongside the development's retail, restaurant and future residential offerings reflects how Texas Heritage Marketplace is evolving into a destination serving several everyday needs.

Construction Timeline for Houston Methodist's New Katy Emergency Care Center

According to construction records, the Houston Methodist Katy Emergency Care Center carries an estimated construction value of $10 million and will occupy approximately 11,150 square feet.

The project includes construction of the single-story emergency care building, associated utilities and site improvements.

Records identify May 20, 2026, as the project's listed start date, with a targeted completion date of June 30, 2027. Houston Methodist held its ceremonial groundbreaking on October 7, formally marking the new facility's development.

The health system anticipates completion in summer 2027, although an official opening date has not yet been announced.

Houston Methodist Already Operates Emergency Care Centers Across Greater Houston

The new Katy location will become part of Houston Methodist's broader network of freestanding emergency care centers, which provide round-the-clock medical services in communities outside its traditional hospital campuses.

For Katy-area residents, one of the existing options is the Houston Methodist Emergency Care Center in Cinco Ranch, located at 26000 FM 1093 in Richmond. That facility operates 24 hours a day.

Other existing 24-hour Houston Methodist Emergency Care Centers serve Cypress, Magnolia, Spring and The Woodlands, along with Kirby, Voss, Deer Park, League City, Pearland and Sienna.

The new Texas Heritage Marketplace facility will expand that network farther west along the Interstate 10 corridor.

Residents should be aware that freestanding emergency care centers differ from urgent care clinics, including in services provided, insurance coverage and potential costs. Patients should review their emergency care insurance benefits when possible. For life-threatening emergencies, residents should call 911.

What This Means for Katy Residents as Texas Heritage Marketplace Continues Growing

The addition of Houston Methodist is another sign of how quickly the western Katy area is changing.

What was once a largely undeveloped stretch along Interstate 10 is steadily becoming a major commercial corridor, with new retailers, restaurants, medical facilities and other services being introduced as surrounding residential communities expand.

For longtime Katy residents who have watched the area evolve, and for families who have recently made western Katy their home, the addition of nearby emergency medical services addresses a practical consideration that goes well beyond shopping convenience.

The new Houston Methodist Katy Emergency Care Center is expected to be completed by summer 2027. As construction moves forward, residents can expect additional announcements about its opening and available services.
