Katy ISD Community Celebrates Legacy of Service at Dedication of Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary in Elyson

February 09 2026

A sense of pride, gratitude and continuity filled the campus of Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary on Monday evening as hundreds of Katy ISD families, educators and community leaders came together to dedicate one of the district’s newest elementary schools in the fast-growing Elyson community.

The dedication ceremony marked both the opening of the campus and a public celebration of the Boudny family’s lasting contributions to public education in Katy ISD. Guests filled the building as the Boudny Elementary Choir opened the event, setting a warm, celebratory tone for a night centered on service, legacy and the future of local students.

“Alfred and Ann Boudny have dedicated many years to supporting the success of Katy ISD students, staff and our community,” Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski said. “Their commitment to this district is evident in the countless lives they have impacted.”

Elected officials and education leaders offered remarks recognizing the significance of the evening, including State Representative Michael J. Schofield of District 132, Audrey Young, Ed.D., of the Texas State Board of Education, and a representative from the Office of Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4. Katy ISD Board Vice President Rebecca Fox also addressed the audience on behalf of the Board of Trustees.

For Campus Principal Felicia Ashabranner, the dedication represented more than a new building — it symbolized the values that will guide the school for years to come.

“It is an honor to stand before you today as we dedicate Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary — a campus built not only with bricks, but with vision, heart and hope for the future,” Ashabranner said.

Members of the Boudny family shared personal reflections, including Alyssa Boudny and Al Boudny, who spoke on behalf of their parents and the family’s lifelong connection to education.

“Together, our parents dedicated their lives to education and thousands of students over a combined 75 years in the classroom,” said Alyssa Boudny, a teacher at Katy ISD’s Nelson Junior High. “That same commitment now continues as they become namesakes to the trailblazing students and staff of Boudny Elementary.”

Al Boudny closed the ceremony by addressing the students who now fill the classrooms and hallways of the new campus.

“To the children who walk these halls daily, thank you for always putting your best foot forward and always doing your best for yourself and those around you,” Boudny said. “Your smiles, ‘Hi’s,’ waves, antlers up, fist bumps, high-fives and hugs warm our hearts and make us so proud to be a trailblazing Buck.”

A Namesake Rooted in Katy ISD History

The dedication follows the Katy ISD Board of Trustees’ December 2024 approval of Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary as a school namesake, a decision announced ahead of the campus opening for the 2025–26 school year. The school, previously known as Elementary #47, was approved alongside James and Mitzi Cross Elementary to serve the district’s rapidly growing northwest quadrant.

Alfred Boudny devoted 39 years to public education, including 34 years in Katy ISD, serving in teaching and administrative roles at West Memorial Elementary, Nottingham Country Elementary, Memorial Parkway Junior High and McDonald Junior High. He retired in 2000 as Teacher of the Year but continued to support students through tutoring, mentoring and volunteering across the district.

Ann Boudny joined Katy ISD in 1982 and spent more than three decades shaping middle school education as a department chair at Memorial Parkway Junior High. She retired in 2015 after a career that left a lasting impact on students, colleagues and district programs.

Serving a Growing Community

Approved by voters as part of Bond 2023, Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary is designed to serve families in the Elyson master-planned community and help relieve enrollment pressures at nearby campuses, including Youngblood Elementary. The campus reflects Katy ISD’s ongoing investment in new schools, modern facilities and honoring educators whose service has helped define the district.

As Katy ISD continues to grow alongside communities like Elyson and Sunterra, the opening and dedication of Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary stands as a reminder that while buildings may be new, the values of dedication, service and student-centered education remain deeply rooted.
