Join the Ride: Fort Bend County's 4th Annual Bike Ride for Survivors Promotes Community and Support for Domestic Violence Victims

August 20 2024

This fall, the spirit of community service will gear up in Fort Bend County with the 4th Annual District Attorney’s “Bike Ride for Survivors,” slated for Saturday, October 5th, at the scenic Brazos River Park in Sugar Land.

Participants can look forward to a well-organized event featuring 20, 40, and 55-mile biking routes, safeguarded by local law enforcement officers to ensure a seamless ride from start to finish without the interruption of traffic stops.

Organizers are building on the resounding success of last year's ride, which raised a remarkable $20,000 in grants. These funds were directed towards local non-profits including the Fort Bend Women's Center, Katy Christian Ministries, Daya and AVDA, assisting survivors of domestic violence with essential services like emergency food and shelter.

Apart from monetary contributions, the event say immense support in the form of volunteer time and effort by local law enforcement, reinforcing the shared goal of making Fort Bend County a safer place to live.

This year's event also features an all-inclusive 1K Color Run. Proceeds of the event will play a crucial role in providing assistance to survivors of violent crimes and aid the development of youth in Fort Bend County through the Fort Bend County Expose Excellence Youth Foundation (EEYF). The EEYF partners with local leaders to provide educational resources and programming for Fort Bend County students aged 10-17, aiming to equip them with the skills and support needed to succeed.

The organizers have announced several updates for this year's ride. Riders on the longer routes can enjoy less travel on FM 521 due to route adjustments. Safety and comfort have been given paramount importance with the provision of two sag vehicles, hydration stations with snacks and port-a-potties, patrol units at major intersections, and directional signage. A repair station will be available at the start/finish line. By popular demand, pickle juice will be available!

Interested individuals are encouraged to join this inspiring event. More information, including registration, can be found at fbcdabikeride.com, calling 281-750-6921 or emailing terri.stuart@fbctx.gov

Let's ride together towards a safer, stronger community.
