This message was posted on the Fort Bend County MUD133 website on October 21, 2024.
Dear Fort Bend County MUD 133 Resident,
We are always looking for ways to enhance our services and better meet the needs of our community. One of the exciting innovations we’re considering is the installation of smart water meters in Fort Bend County MUD 133 (the “District”).
Smart water meters offer a range of benefits that can improve water management for both residents and the District:
-
Real-Time Monitoring: Smart meters allow you to track your water usage in real time, helping you identify areas where you can conserve and save on your water bill.
-
Leak Detection: These meters are equipped with technology to detect leaks early, reducing water waste and helping to prevent costly damage from unnoticed leaks. You can set up alerts for this. Residents can consistently incur additional costs due to unknown leaks, at times generating collectively over 100,000 gallons in water usage. Smart meters offer the capability to detect leaks early, allowing them to be addressed quickly and efficiently.
-
Accurate Billing: With more precise measurements, you’ll only pay for the water you use—no more estimates or inaccuracies from manual meter readings.
-
Improved Water Management: For the utility, smart meters offer valuable data that can help in detecting system inefficiencies, reducing operational costs, and ensuring a more reliable water supply for everyone. You can manage your water usage from a web browser or mobile app.
-
Cost: Approximate cost for the project is $1.2M; however, there is no additional cost to the resident. Manufacturers will eventually phase out the manual meters. By purchasing smart water meters now, we can potentially capitalize on better pricing.
