Exciting Changes Ahead: Katy ISD Board of Trustees Approves 2024 Calendar Updates

February 27 2024

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has announced exciting changes for the 2024 calendar year in Katy ISD. Following their recent meeting, the Board unanimously approved updates that will impact the current school year. Students and staff of Katy ISD can anticipate an extended weekend break in April, with an additional day off scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2024, and the reopening of district schools and offices on Tuesday, April 2.

Board President Victor Perez elaborated on the approved updates, stating that the Board has revised the 2023-2024 Instructional Calendar to include an extra holiday on April 1st. This decision was made to ensure the required operational minutes per year are met, while also allowing for unforeseen circumstances like bad weather days.

"The calendar update includes an additional staff and student holiday on April 1st. Districts are required to provide at least 75,600 operational minutes per year, plus enough minutes to account for two bad weather days. Because of that, our Board was in the position to approve an additional and much-deserved holiday for our students and staff," said Perez.

Furthermore, the Board has also modified the summer work schedule for Katy ISD staff. Starting from the week of June 3, employees will transition to a four-day work week until July 22, 2024. During this period, district offices will operate Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Fridays designated as off days.

Between July 1 and July 5, 2024, regular working hours will resume, with Thursday, July 4 observed as a holiday. The standard workweek will then recommence on Monday, July 29, 2024. These adjustments reflect Katy ISD's commitment to providing a harmonious work-life balance for staff members, while upholding the delivery of a top-notch educational experience for students.
