Elizabeth “Jia” Paek Named New Principal of Rylander Elementary in Katy ISD
As Katy ISD prepares for the upcoming school year, Rylander Elementary welcomes a familiar and highly respected leader. Elizabeth “Jia” Paek has been named the new principal, officially taking the helm July 28.
Paek brings two decades of dedicated service within Katy ISD, most recently serving as assistant principal at West Memorial Elementary, a Title I and bilingual campus known for its diverse and dynamic student population. Her experience also includes five years as assistant principal at WoodCreek Elementary, where she previously taught for nearly a decade. Her teaching journey began at McRoberts Elementary, where she was named the campus’ 2006 First Year Teacher of the Year.

Katy ISD Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski praised Paek’s appointment, highlighting her experience and student-first approach. “Ms. Paek is a passionate and experienced leader who prioritizes student achievement and meaningful connections within the school community,” he said. “Her strong instructional background, campus leadership experience and close ties to our district make her a natural fit to lead Rylander Elementary into its next chapter.”
Throughout her career, Paek has expanded her leadership reach beyond the classroom and campus. She has served as an assistant principal mentor, contributed to the district’s Elementary Discipline Committee, and participated in the Aspiring Principals’ Academy. Her leadership portfolio includes instructional planning, safety systems, campus operations and family engagement. Among her honors are being named WoodCreek Elementary Teacher of the Year, receiving a PTA Honorary Life Membership, and earning a nomination for Katy ISD’s 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year.

For Paek, stepping into this role is both professional and personal. “Joining the Rylander community is truly an honor,” she shared. “I’m excited to collaborate with our staff, students and families as we continue to create a supportive environment where every child can grow, achieve and be loved.”
Paek holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston, a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, and a principal certification from the University of Houston-Victoria. She is certified in Elementary Education, English as a Second Language and as a principal.
As the new school year approaches, Rylander Elementary families can look forward to Paek’s student-centered leadership and her commitment to nurturing both academic success and a strong sense of community.
