For Cypress Meadow homeowners who have ever wanted a more direct role in neighborhood decisions, there is an opportunity to step forward this month.

The Clay Road Homeowners Association is accepting candidates for two open positions on its Board of Directors, with both seats carrying three-year terms. The election will take place as part of the association’s 2026 Annual Meeting of Members.

For residents, HOA board elections can be an important part of how a neighborhood manages shared responsibilities, communicates with homeowners and plans for the future. Board members may be involved in everything from resident concerns and association projects to committee work and ongoing community operations.

Candidate Deadline Is September 15

Homeowners interested in running for the Clay Road HOA Board of Directors must complete and return the association’s Candidate Information Form so it is received no later than noon on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Completed forms may be submitted in one of three ways:

According to the association’s solicitation notice, candidates who submit the form by the deadline will have their names placed on the ballot unless they are otherwise disqualified by law.

The form also gives candidates the option to provide information about how long they have lived in the community, their occupation or background, and why they believe they would be an asset to the board. Those responses may be shared with association members along with annual meeting materials, while personal contact information is excluded.

What Serving on the Clay Road HOA Board Involves

The association is also asking potential candidates to consider the time commitment that comes with serving on the board.

Board members should be available to attend board meetings and devote additional time each week to association projects, homeowner and resident issues, emails and other responsibilities. Members may also serve as board officers or act as liaisons to association committees.

For residents considering whether to run, that description offers a useful picture of what HOA board service can look like beyond attending meetings. It is a hands-on role that can require regular involvement in the day-to-day matters affecting neighbors and the broader community.

Candidate Eligibility Requirements

The association’s notice also identifies eligibility requirements under the Texas Property Code.

According to the candidate materials, a person may be disqualified from serving on the board if that individual has been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude within the past 20 years. The notice also states that two people who live at the same residence may not serve on the Board of Directors at the same time.

Candidates must acknowledge those requirements when submitting the Candidate Information Form.
