City of Jarrell Issues Public Notice About Unauthorized Representation, Urges Residents to Verify Official City Contacts

June 01 2026

The City of Jarrell is asking residents to exercise caution and verify official communications after receiving reports that an individual may have been falsely presenting themselves as a current City official.

In a public notice released by the City, officials stated they became aware of reports that an individual distributed business cards containing the City of Jarrell logo, City branding elements, and what appeared to be a City email address despite not currently holding an elected or appointed position or being employed by the City.

The announcement serves as both a clarification for residents and a reminder about the importance of protecting public trust in local government. City leaders emphasized that only individuals who are currently elected to City Council, properly appointed to a City board or commission, or employed by the City of Jarrell are authorized to represent themselves as officers or employees of the municipality.

For residents, the issue goes beyond a single incident. Trust in local government often depends on knowing that information, guidance, and decisions are coming from legitimate sources. Whether residents are seeking assistance, attending public meetings, discussing development projects, or addressing community concerns, confidence in official communications helps ensure transparency and accountability.

What Texas Law Says About Impersonating Public Officials

The City's notice also highlighted provisions of Texas criminal law regarding the impersonation of public servants.

According to the City, it is a violation of Texas law for a person to impersonate a public servant with the intent to induce another individual to submit to the person's pretended authority or rely on purported official actions. It is also unlawful to knowingly exercise, without legal authority, any function of a public servant or public office.

City officials noted that unauthorized use of official titles, government contact information, City logos, or municipal branding for deceptive purposes may fall within these prohibitions.

  • Mayor Patrick Sherek
  • Mayor Pro Tempore and Alderman Place 1 Daniel Klepac
  • Alderwoman Place 2 Lori Allen
  • Alderwoman Place 3 Tanya Clawson
  • Alderman Place 4 Drew Sumner
  • Alderwoman Place 5 Tammy Fitzner

Residents conducting City business, seeking information, or receiving communications claiming to come from City leadership are encouraged to verify the source if they have any doubts.

How Residents Can Report Concerns

City officials are asking for the public's assistance in identifying any potential unauthorized representations.

Anyone who has been approached by an individual claiming to be a City official or employee and believes the claim may be questionable is encouraged to contact City Hall. The City is specifically requesting that residents preserve and share any relevant documentation, including business cards, emails, text messages, or other communications that may assist law enforcement in determining whether further action is warranted.

Reports can be submitted by emailing ReportAbuse@cityofjarrell.gov or by calling 512-746-4593

Residents who simply want to verify whether someone represents the City can also contact City Hall directly at 512-746-4593

Why This Matters to the Jarrell Community

As Jarrell continues to grow, clear communication between residents and local government becomes increasingly important. Ensuring that official information comes from authorized sources helps protect residents from confusion, misinformation, and potential misuse of public trust.

City leaders are encouraging residents to remain informed, ask questions when something seems unusual, and verify official contacts whenever necessary. By working together, community members can help preserve the integrity of local government and maintain confidence in the institutions that serve Jarrell.
