For families around Hightop Ridge looking for more places to play, eat, meet up or simply spend time close to home, one of Converse's closely watched development projects has reached an important milestone.

ADS Sports Complex officially opened its doors July 10, 2026, at 10251 E. Loop 1604 N. in Converse, marking the transition of a project that has been under construction for more than a year from an idea on paper into a place residents can begin experiencing for themselves.

The opening is also something of a catch-up moment. With construction progressing rapidly through the spring and summer, residents who have driven past the site along Loop 1604 may not realize that portions of the development are already welcoming visitors while the broader vision for the property continues to come together.

For Hightop Ridge residents, the significance goes beyond having another nearby destination. ADS Sports Complex was conceived as a year-round gathering place combining athletics, food, entertainment and events — the kind of amenity Converse leaders have said residents increasingly want closer to home.

ADS Sports Complex Celebrates Its July Opening in Converse

The July 10 grand opening and ribbon-cutting brought together ADS Sports Complex leadership, City of Converse officials, the Converse Economic Development Corporation and members of the community.

ADS credited Owner and CEO Tim Porter with providing the vision behind the project and thanked the Converse mayor, City Council members, city staff and Converse EDC for helping move the development forward and supporting the opening celebration.

Special guest Selestial Alcoser also performed during the event.

Most importantly for the organization, the celebration marked the point when residents could finally begin walking through the doors rather than simply watching construction from outside.

The business announced following the ceremony that it was officially open, inviting visitors to stop in for coffee, a meal, sports or a look around the developing complex.

The opening announcement listed daily hours of 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents planning a visit may want to check directly with ADS Sports Complex for the latest operating hours and availability as additional portions of the development come online.

What Is ADS Sports Complex?

ADS Sports Complex is designed as considerably more than a traditional gym.

The Converse Economic Development Corporation describes the development as a destination project combining sports, dining, entertainment, flexible event space and community gathering areas, with the dual purpose of improving quality-of-life amenities for residents and drawing additional visitors to Converse.

Planned components include a professional basketball venue, basketball training facilities, restaurant and coffee options, event space, family entertainment amenities and areas where residents can gather even when they are not participating in a sport.

Porter's broader plans have also included multiple sports. ADS Sentinels leadership describes the approximately seven-acre complex as incorporating basketball, volleyball, pickleball and lacrosse along with a café, giving the property a role that extends from organized athletics to casual family visits and community events.

That mix is important for nearby neighborhoods such as Hightop Ridge. Instead of requiring every visit to revolve around a scheduled game or practice, the concept is intended to create reasons for families, athletes and other residents to use the property throughout the year.

From Groundbreaking to Opening in a Little Over a Year

The ADS Sports Complex story began taking visible shape in March 2025, when the Converse EDC held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Loop 1604 property. 

By January 2026, site work and underground water and sewer utility construction were underway. Concrete foundations followed in April, while construction on the coffee shop progressed alongside the larger project.

One of the complex's most recognizable features arrived in May, when its dome structures were installed and raised.

By July, Converse EDC was preparing to celebrate the opening of the coffee shop and reported that the parking lot was expected to receive its first layer of asphalt. The July 10 grand-opening celebration then gave residents their first opportunity to experience the emerging destination rather than simply follow its construction progress. 

Professional Basketball Has a Home in Converse

Basketball is expected to be one of the defining pieces of ADS Sports Complex.

The property is home to the ADS Sentinels, Converse's professional basketball team competing in The Basketball League, or TBL. Porter announced the complex as the Sentinels' home in 2025, adding professional sports to the development's mix of community uses.

The Sentinels began competing during the 2026 TBL season, giving the Converse area a professional basketball organization with an emphasis on athlete development as well as community involvement. The team's own materials describe its mission around empowerment, unity, resilience and family, with player development and community engagement central to its identity. 

For young basketball players living nearby, that creates another dimension to the project. A facility built for professional competition can also put developing athletes closer to players, coaches and basketball programming without requiring a trip farther into the San Antonio metro.

Why Converse Leaders See the Project as More Than Recreation

The City's interest in ADS Sports Complex is tied partly to a question many growing communities face: how can a city add amenities for its own residents while also creating reasons for people from surrounding areas to visit?

Converse EDC has positioned the project as part of that answer.

Its development strategy calls for ADS Sports Complex to support local businesses by attracting visitors for games, training, dining, entertainment and events while also giving Converse residents additional recreational options close to home.

Officials have also pointed to resident interest in having more nearby places to gather, dine and enjoy recreation. The complex is intended to respond to that demand while complementing Converse's longer-term economic development strategy. 

That economic piece matters because a basketball tournament, youth sports event or special event can have effects beyond the property itself. Visiting families may stop at nearby restaurants, purchase fuel, shop or use other local services, creating activity that spreads into the surrounding business community.

It also gives Converse another opportunity to develop an identity as a destination rather than simply a place people pass through while traveling elsewhere in the San Antonio area.

A Project Residents Can Now Begin Experiencing

There is still a distinction between the July opening and the completion of every element envisioned for ADS Sports Complex.

The facility's long-term plans include professional basketball operations, training areas, dining, events and additional entertainment and gathering spaces, and the Converse EDC continues to list ADS Sports Complex among the city's active featured development projects as of August 2026. But for residents who may have missed the ribbon cutting, the key update is straightforward: ADS Sports Complex is no longer simply a coming-soon project. It is now open and beginning its next chapter.

For nearby families, that means another place to grab coffee or a meal, follow local professional basketball, participate in sports and, as more of the vision is realized, attend events or spend time together without traveling as far from the Converse area.

For the city, it represents something broader — an effort to turn recreation and entertainment into both a community amenity and a piece of long-term economic development.

And for residents watching Converse grow around them, the July opening offers a chance to see firsthand what one of the area's newest destination projects is becoming.
