September Yard of the Month Winner
Daphne and Kim Jones of 22531 Unicorn Horn Lane

Long time Williamsburg Settlement residents of 39.5 years, Daphne and Kim Jones, are September’s Yard of the Month recipients. Approximately one block away from Winborn Elementary School their house, at 22531 Unicorns Horn Lane, is situated in a cozy location in the neighborhood. Similar to previous recipients, the Jones’ chose the Settlement because of the local schools, the proximity to Houston, and the floorplan of their home. They also really like their neighbors!

Originally from Oklahoma, Daphne and Kim moved to Katy in 1975 and raised their two sons who attended Winborn Elementary and Katy High schools. Daphne has since retired from KISD (former teacher), and Kim is a retired sales manager from John Deere Company.

Initially, Daphne and Kim did their own landscaping and maintenance. Since 2015 they have hired a father and son team from Nalesnik’s Landscaping, Inc. to take care of their yard. Two plant beds flank each side of the walkway at the front of their house and flowering crape myrtle trees with a Japanese yew by the sidewalk. A red oak and pine tree also inhabit their front yard giving them much needed shade during the summer months. Smaller green shrubs fill out the space along with annuals, such as vincas and pentas during the spring and summer, and pansies during the fall, giving their front yard a pop of color. Perennial flowers and greens such as tropical ginger, blue amaryllis, agapanthus and ferns, add an extra texture to their front beds. Finally flower pots on the sidewalk with seasonal flowers such as purslane, vincas or pentas greet you as you walk from the mailbox to their front door. Of all the plants that they have, the Jones recommends growing the crepe Myrtles since they love the sun, easy to maintain and flower for at least 6 months.

A heartfelt thanks and congratulations to long time residents Daphne and Kim!
