The Woodlands Show Chorus High on Singing!
It looks like TWSC has emerged even stronger after the Zoom rehearsing, face masking, temperature taking and social distancing pandemic and is live, singing their hearts out all around the community. The April Sound Ladies Association was treated to an emotionally charged, passionate patriotic concert on June 22. One member quoted, “there was not a dry eye in the house!” Betty Clipman, world renowned Director of this exciting group of ladies, commented that an audience response like this one is as good for the chorus as it is for the audience. The tears were found on chorus singers as well. The small performing chorus of TWSC is called Daybreak Chorus and is usually represented by 20-30+ members. They are part of the larger The Woodlands Show Chorus of Conroe, which boasts over 60 women singers.
Daybreak Chorus is again looking forward to performing on July 2nd at Conroe’s Stars and Stripes Celebration in Heritage Place and will sing patriotic songs as well as some of their own repertoire. They will take some deep breaths and again perform on July 3rd at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to kick off the traditional Houston Symphony’s Independence Eve Spectacular.
The entire chorus, along with its quartets, will present its annual show (Let Freedom Ring and Let Love Sing) on July 16 at Saints Simon and Jude Church Events Center in The Woodlands. It is a wine and cheese event with bake sale, silent auction, door prize and more! Brenda Anderson, Show Chair, says “if you want to reminisce about the old radio shows or just hear great singing of old and current songs, this is your ticket to a fun and exciting presentation with some surprises.” Doors open at 4:00 pm with show from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Tickets are reasonably priced at $25 adult, $20 senior/children and $30 reserved seating. Work out your own group rate with Carol by calling 713-688-6509, when you call for tickets. You can also request tickets by emailing tickets@thewoodlandsshowchorus.org.
September 12-17 will find the chorus traveling to Phoenix, Az, to compete in the 74th Sweet Adeline International global competition, which is returning after a two-year pandemic hold. The chorus will compete with 28 other choruses who have won their regions all over the world. The competition is the world’s largest women’s singing competition, which includes quartet and chorus competitions throughout the week with women singing four-part harmony, a cappella style. It also includes a ‘Harmony Classic’ competition for small choruses.
The Woodlands Show Chorus rehearses each Monday from 7-10 pm at the Family Life Center in the First Presbyterian Church in Conroe. Visitors and interested women singers are always welcome. More information is available at www.thewoodlandsshowchorus.org.
