Teen Volunteers Make an Impact at Oasis Gardens of The Living Legacy Center in Cypress
The Oasis Gardens of The Living Legacy Center came alive last weekend with the energy and enthusiasm of local high school students from Cy-Fair High School and Cy Woods High School. These young volunteers dedicated their time to harvesting fresh produce from the garden, helping ensure that local families in need receive nutritious food while reducing waste. The remaining produce will be donated to local food banks, providing support to vulnerable families in the Cypress community.
"We were thrilled to have these students working alongside us," said Tammy Lynn Easley, Director of Marketing and Community Events for The Living Legacy Center. "Their efforts in the garden not only help sustain our mission but also foster a sense of community and compassion for those who need it most."
In addition to the harvest, volunteers worked on maintaining the property, ensuring that the Oasis Gardens remain a sustainable resource for fresh produce. The volunteers also engaged in creative activities, painting rocks for the memorial garden and crafting beautiful bracelets that will be used in future projects.

"It's inspiring to see these teens take ownership of such important work," Easley continued. "From gardening to crafting, their hard work and big smiles brighten our space and remind us all of the power of giving back."
The Living Legacy Center is a vital community hub that strives to serve the Cypress area by providing support to families facing food insecurity, as well as connect those in need to resources that can help. The organization offers opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved in volunteer activities, from hands-on garden work to creative crafting projects. The center's outreach efforts are funded in part by generous donations from the community, which helps them continue to provide these essential services.
In addition to making a meaningful impact on their community, volunteering offers numerous personal and academic benefits for teenagers. Engaging in volunteer work not only allows teens to gain hands-on experience but also fosters the development of valuable life skills, such as teamwork, responsibility, and leadership. These experiences can build confidence and instill a sense of accomplishment, helping young people grow both personally and socially.

Moreover, many schools encourage volunteerism as part of community service requirements, providing teens with volunteer hours that can be applied toward their academic achievements. By participating in activities like those at The Living Legacy Center, students can enhance their resumes and college applications, demonstrating their commitment to service and their ability to balance extracurricular responsibilities with academic pursuits.
"We are always looking for more volunteers to join our efforts," Easley emphasized. "If your group is interested in making a difference in the lives of others, we encourage you to contact us and get involved. Together, we can make a real impact on the lives of families who need our help."
The Living Legacy Center also has a call for donations of old jewelry beads, which will be repurposed for crafting projects. These donations will help fund future community efforts and ensure the center’s ongoing success.

"We are so grateful for the support we receive from the community," Easley said. "Your donations, whether of time, materials, or financial contributions, allow us to continue our work and grow our impact. Join us on Saturdays to see firsthand how your support is helping to make a difference."
