Taurino’s Mexican Restaurant Plans New Culebra Road Location, Bringing a Family-Owned San Antonio Favorite to Far West Bexar County
For residents of Far West San Antonio, the stretch of Culebra Road continues to evolve as one of the city’s fastest-growing commercial corridors. Now, a well-known local restaurant brand with more than two decades of history is planning to become part of that growth.
Construction is scheduled to begin July 20, 2026, on a new Taurino’s Mexican Restaurant at 11935 Culebra Road in San Antonio. According to project filings, the development will include a new 5,885-square-foot restaurant, an adjacent 4,765-square-foot commercial shell building, and associated parking, creating a total development of approximately 10,650 square feet. The project carries an estimated construction value of $1.1 million and is expected to be completed in October 2027.
For nearby residents, the project represents more than another restaurant opening. It brings a locally owned San Antonio business into one of the region’s fastest-growing residential areas while also creating additional retail space that could attract future tenants and services to the community.
A San Antonio Restaurant Story More Than 20 Years in the Making
Unlike many restaurant chains expanding into new markets, Taurino’s Mexican Restaurant traces its roots directly to San Antonio.
The family-owned and operated business opened its first location on Dec. 26, 2002, near Callaghan Road. What began as a single neighborhood restaurant eventually led to a second location opening in April 2016, giving the business a broader presence across the city.
According to the restaurant, its name reflects family ties and heritage connected to San Buenaventura, Mexico. The owners describe their approach as combining authentic Mexican cuisine with traditional Tex-Mex favorites while creating an atmosphere where guests feel welcomed like family.
Over the years, Taurino’s has built a loyal customer base by serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering everything from classic Mexican comfort foods to house-made tortillas and catering services for local events and gatherings.
Why the Culebra Road Location Matters
The proposed restaurant site sits within an area experiencing substantial residential and commercial growth as new neighborhoods continue to emerge throughout Far West Bexar County.
As thousands of new residents have moved into communities along the Culebra Road corridor in recent years, demand for locally owned dining options has grown alongside new housing, retail centers, schools, and infrastructure investments.
The addition of Taurino’s offers something many residents actively seek: a local San Antonio restaurant with an established reputation rather than another national chain concept.
The project’s adjacent commercial shell building could also contribute to future economic activity in the area by creating space for additional businesses, services, or retailers that serve nearby neighborhoods.
A Menu Built Around Family Meals and Tradition
Taurino’s has built its reputation on traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. The restaurant emphasizes homemade tortillas, breakfast offerings, lunch plates, dinner favorites, and family-friendly dining experiences.
For many longtime customers, the appeal extends beyond the menu itself. Family-owned restaurants often become gathering places where generations celebrate milestones, share meals, and create traditions of their own.
That community-centered approach has helped Taurino’s remain a recognizable local name for more than 20 years in San Antonio’s competitive restaurant market.
What Happens Next?
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in July 2026, with completion anticipated in October 2027.
While an official opening date has not yet been announced, the project signals continued investment along the Culebra Road corridor and reflects the growing appeal of Far West San Antonio as both a residential and commercial destination.
As construction moves forward, residents can watch the site take shape and look ahead to welcoming another locally owned dining option to the area.
