Spring ISD Breaks Ground on $141M EPIC Center to Revolutionize Student Learning and Performance

May 12 2025

Big dreams are taking shape in Spring Independent School District as the community prepares to break ground on a project that’s being called nothing short of “EPIC.”

This Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m., district leaders, students, families, and local partners will gather at the Randall Reed Center at Planet Ford Stadium for the official groundbreaking of the Education, Performance, and Instruction Center—better known as the EPIC Center.

Backed by Spring ISD’s 2022 Bond and a $141 million investment, the EPIC Center is more than just a new building. It's a bold step forward in how the district supports students across academics, the arts, and athletics. The 148,000-square-foot facility will feature a 4,000-seat indoor arena, a 1,000-seat performance hall, a 250-seat recital and academic space, culinary and visual arts classrooms, and a nearly 50,000-square-foot multipurpose pavilion. It will also be used for large district events and serve as an emergency reunification site when needed.

A Place Where Passions Can Thrive

Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa spoke from the heart when sharing what EPIC means for the district.

“EPIC is more than a building—it's a commitment to our students' future,” she said. “This center will serve as a space where academics, the arts, and athletics come together to inspire creativity, achievement, and pride in our community.”

It’s a vision that’s been years in the making and one that holds the promise of opening doors for students with every kind of talent and ambition. Whether it’s center stage in a musical, a science symposium, or a championship game, EPIC is designed to be the district’s centerpiece of opportunity.

Spring ISD Board President Justine Durant put it simply:

“The EPIC Center represents our vision for excellence in education. It's a place where every student can find opportunity—whether on the stage, in the classroom, or on the court. We're excited to see this dream take shape for Spring ISD.”

A Community Effort

Friday’s ceremony will be a celebration of what’s possible when a community comes together for its children. Student musicians will perform, district leaders will speak, and project partners from HKS Architects and Durotech Construction will be recognized. Local elected officials and community leaders are also expected to attend.

The EPIC Center is slated for completion by early 2027 and is set to become a cornerstone of Spring ISD’s mission to nurture student success in all its forms.
