Smash’d on Grayson Street Plans Major Expansion Near San Antonio’s Pearl District
Smash’d, a locally owned gastropub near San Antonio’s Pearl District, is preparing for a substantial expansion that could give diners, music fans and neighborhood visitors more room to gather.
Construction filings show plans to add approximately 1,200 square feet to the existing 1,000-square-foot restaurant at 520 E. Grayson St. The estimated $200,000 project is scheduled to begin Aug. 1, 2026, with completion anticipated by Nov. 30, 2026.
For residents and visitors familiar with the growing Grayson Street dining and entertainment corridor, the Smash’d expansion represents another investment in an area already known for local restaurants, nightlife and destinations within walking distance of the Pearl.
Smash’d Expansion Will More Than Double Existing Restaurant Space
The planned addition would bring the restaurant’s total footprint to approximately 2,200 square feet, more than twice its current size.
The construction filing identifies the project as an addition to the existing building. Detailed plans for how the additional space will be used have not been publicly outlined, but the expansion could provide more flexibility for a restaurant built around dining, outdoor gatherings, live performances, trivia nights and game-day crowds.
The projected construction timeline runs through late November, though project schedules can change as permitting, inspections and construction progress.
A Locally Owned Gastropub With San Antonio at Its Center
Owned by San Antonians Rick Greenfield and Erin Tireman, Smash’d presents itself as a community-built restaurant designed around good food, local music and an approachable neighborhood atmosphere.
Greenfield, an entrepreneur and longtime music supporter, has helped shape the venue as a place where San Antonio performers can take the stage. Tireman brings a people-first focus intended to make the restaurant feel welcoming and comfortable for regulars, first-time guests, families and groups of friends.
The restaurant’s menu and culinary direction were inspired by Chef Brandon Peterson, whose ideas helped establish the food concept. Smash’d continues to collaborate with Peterson as the menu evolves.
That local focus extends beyond the kitchen. The restaurant regularly hosts musicians from San Antonio and across Texas, giving customers a reason to remain after dinner rather than treating the venue as a quick stop.
Texas Wagyu Burgers, Chicken Smash Burgers and Late-Night Favorites
Smash’d is best known for smashed burgers made with 100% Texas Wagyu beef. The menu includes the Signature Smash’d, BBQ Smash’d, Wake & Bacon Smash’d, Southwest Smash’d and the award-winning Fajita Smash’d.
More adventurous selections include Hawaiian, Pepperoni Pizza, Mushroom Swiss and Beer Cheese N Bacon smash burgers.
The restaurant also serves ground chicken smash burgers, including Buffalo Chicken, Poblano Chicken, Nashville Hot Chicken and Chicken Cordon Bleu varieties. Other options include California-style burritos, carne guisada burritos, wings, Philly cheesesteaks, nachos, asada fries and shareable appetizers.
Desserts include lemon curd tres leches, chocolate cake and funnel cake fries, while the kids menu offers familiar choices such as cheeseburgers, chicken strips, corn dogs and grilled cheese.
That broad menu helps Smash’d function as several things at once: a lunch destination, a casual dinner restaurant, a live music venue and a late-night gathering place near the Pearl.
The Pour Yard Adds a Self-Serve Experience
One of the restaurant’s defining features is the Pour Yard, a self-serve tap wall with a rotating selection of beverages.
Guests can pour their own drinks, sample smaller amounts and pay by the ounce. The outdoor self-pour setup complements the restaurant’s patio, creating a flexible space for guests who want to watch a performance, meet friends or spend an evening outdoors.
Smash’d also offers indoor bar seating, reservations and space for private parties.

Scheduled artists include Lew Apollo, Austin Ausley, Austin Burns, the Aaron Stephens Band, St. Dukes, Emily Monsen, Isaac Sloane & the Sound Brigade, the Poison Darts, Chris Cuevas Project, BARTLY, Selûna and Karen Wells & South River.
The performances cover a wide mix of neo-soul, blues, rock, country, Americana, indie and funk. Many shows are offered with free admission and free parking, making the restaurant an accessible option for residents looking for live music near the Pearl without purchasing a concert ticket.
