Sheletta Brundidge Brings Spread Love with Locks Campaign to Fort Bend County, Advocating for the Safety of Autistic Children
On September 28, Houston Fifth Ward native, Sheletta Brundidge, is coming home. Not as a standup comedian, radio host, or as the driving force behind the diverse multimedia platform, ShelettaMakesMeLaugh.com, but as an advocate for safety. Brundidge, also known as the "Autism Mom", is bringing her "Spread Love with Locks" campaign to Fort Bend County's Gus George Law Enforcement Academy, located at 1521 Eugene Heimann Cir, Richmond, TX 77469.
The campaign aims to distribute keyless electronic interior combination locks to families. The locks are a simple yet vital tool for maintaining the safety of autistic children at home. These convenient locks have a digital lock and passcode and can be easily installed using just a screwdriver, fit most standard doors, and allow for keyless entry.
Sheletta's path towards advocacy stems from personal experience. A resident of Minnesota, and mother to three autistic children, she discovered these locks when her youngest child wandered away from their home in frigid Minnesota temperatures. The incident was a turning point for her, compelling her to play her part in preventing such situations for other families.
“I have three kids with autism who wander and I've had several times where they got out the house, down the street and it was nothing but the grace of God and helpful neighbors who found them and brought them home," she recalls. The incident, among several others, has powerfully highlighted the tendency of autistic children to wander, and their dangerous attraction to water.

Based on these experiences, she partnered with Amazon to give away free interior combination door locks to families who have children with autism, distributing nearly 100 free locks to families this summer at the YMCA of Greater Houston. According to Brundidge, these locks are a "game changer," and she is on mission to raise awareness of this life-saving device.
"I put them on all doors leading to the outside of the house and it's literally the only thing that has saved them from eloping, " said Brundidge.
The lock giveaway event in Fort Bend County will be much more than just a distribution drive. Set to run from 10 AM - 12 PM, it will feature numerous family-friendly activities, including free ice cream, face painting, and balloon twists, promising a day of fun and safety.
This event marks another chapter in Sheletta's journey as an influencer, social media phenomenon, and activist in advocating for the safety and well-being of autistic children, by ensuring they don't wander away from the safe confines of their homes.
