Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass Brings Jazzy Holiday Cheer to Spring with 'A Very Brassy Christmas'

October 30 2025

This holiday season, the sound of brass will ring bright and bold through the heart of Spring, Texas, as Cypress Creek FACE presents A Very Brassy Christmas with The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass on Saturday, November 29, 2025. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Centrum, located at 6823 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379.

Known for fusing classical music, big band jazz, and New Orleans swing, the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass (RMPBB) will transform beloved holiday classics into a dazzling display of virtuosity and joy. Audiences can expect stunning brass arrangements of favorites from The Nutcracker, Messiah, and other Christmas staples, all performed by a rotating cast of the nation’s top brass musicians.

A Family Affair Rooted in Jazz and Community

Led by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Rodney Marsalis—part of the legendary Marsalis family of jazz—this ensemble is widely considered America's premier large brass group. Their performances combine world-class artistry with accessibility, community spirit, and cultural diversity.

Originally formed in New Orleans, RMPBB was shaped by the guidance of the late Ellis Marsalis, who encouraged a genre-blending format that connects audiences with performers across generations and musical tastes. Since its inception, the ensemble has played to standing ovations in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including China’s National Center for the Performing Arts, Tanglewood’s Seiji Ozawa Hall, and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

Whether playing a solo trumpet piece or performing as a full eleven-piece ensemble with percussion, the group remains focused on a single mission: to make music that brings people together.

Rodney Marsalis: A Life in Brass

Rodney Marsalis began his musical journey in New Orleans at age six and debuted as a soloist at just fifteen with the New Orleans Symphony. His path led him to the Curtis Institute of Music and to stages around the world, performing with the Boston Pops, Barcelona Symphony, and countless others. With over 30 professional recordings and performances under renowned conductors like Leonard Bernstein and John Williams, Marsalis has become a trumpet icon whose sound resonates far beyond the concert hall.

His acclaimed recordings, including Spirit of the Trumpeter and Carmen Fantasy for Trumpet and Orchestra, continue to inspire generations of musicians.

A Centrum Tradition

Cypress Creek FACE, the nonprofit behind this festive evening, has long been a cultural cornerstone in Northwest Houston. Since its founding in 1997, FACE has brought international stars and rising local talent to The Centrum, a 740-seat acoustic gem. Beyond performances, the organization provides summer string camps, scholarships, and free children's concerts that engage and uplift the local community.

“Our goal has always been to enrich our community through the arts,” says FACE leadership. “Bringing an ensemble like RMPBB to The Centrum during the holidays is exactly what we’re here for—music that connects and inspires.”
