Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy, presents a variety of free children’s programs, adult computer classes, book clubs, and special programs for people of all ages each month. All programs are free and open to the public. LIBRARY CLOSINGS

November 11 – Veterans’ Day

November 24-27 – Thanksgiving

 

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

The library is unable to accommodate daycares and school groups at these activities. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

  • Family Story Time – Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:15-10:45 am and 11:30 am-12:00 noon, Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. This activity will NOT take place on November 2, 3, 9, or 24 because of elections and the Thanksgiving holiday.

    • November 10 – Manners

    • November 16 and 17 – Bears

    • November 23 – Food

    • November 30 – Dance Party

  • Pajama Night Story Time – 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 6:00-6:30 pm – gives families an evening option for some activities presented during the day time. This activity will NOT take place on November 1 because of elections.

  • Kinder Korner will not take place in November because of elections.
  • After-School Break: Rock Painting – Wednesday, November 16, at 4:30-5:00 pm. This program is for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5.
 

YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS (for teens in grades 9-12)

  • Young Adult Advisory Council – Wednesday, November 16, 4:00-5:00 pm, Conference Room. Teens in grades 9-12 who are interested in an exciting new leadership opportunity and volunteer-service hours are invited to attend this meeting of the Young Adult Advisory Council. Members will have a chance to share ideas about library programs, to help out at events, to give suggestions for teen services, books, and movies, and to meet new people.

  • Young Adult Book Club – Wednesday, November 23, 4:00-5:00 pm, Conference Classroom. Teen readers in grades 9-12 will have the opportunity to meet with others who share the same love for great books, and have a lively discussion on the reasons a book or its characters were liked or disliked. Those attending the book-club meeting in November are invited to talk about the YA novel The Forgetting, written by Sharon Cameron. This title is available in print and as an e-audiobook on Hoopla; call the library to check availability of additional print copies.
 

BOOK CLUBS FOR ADULTS (Copies of book-club selections are available at the check-out desk)

  • Literary Lunch League Book Club – Wednesday, November 2, 12:00 noon-1:00 pm, Conference Classroom. The book to be discussed is Jar of Hearts, written by Jennifer Hillier. This title is available in print, audio CD, and digitally as an ebook on OverDrive; additional print copies are available at the check-out desk. Those attending are invited to bring a lunch, if desired. This book club meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
  • “The Butler Did It” Mystery Book Club – Thursday, November 10, 2:00-3:00 pm, Conference Classroom. The book to be discussed is Dark Tort, written by Diane Mott Davidson. This title is available in print and audio CD; additional print copies are available at the check-out desk. This book club meets on the second Thursday of every month.
 

ADULT COMPUTER CLASSES

All computer classes will take place in the Computer Lab. Reservations are required. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Classes & Events,” select “Cinco Ranch Branch Library,” and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library at 281-395-1311, or by visiting the library.

  • Google Docs: Part 2 – Wednesday, November 9, 10:15-11:30 am. In this intermediate-level class, learn additional tips on using Google Docs to create and manipulate web-based documents, spreadsheets, slides, and forms. While similar to other word-processing applications, Google Docs also allows users to collaborate on the same document in real time with other users and access their cloud-based documents from any computer.
 

ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Craft: Paper Marigolds – Tuesday, November 1, 7:00-8:30 pm, Conference Classroom. The Cempasúchil, or “flower of the dead” (flor de muerto), are marigold flowers that adorn altars and graves everywhere on Día de los Muertos. During this craft program, participants will learn how to create these symbolic paper flowers from tissue paper and pipe cleaners.

  • NaNoWriMo: Creative-Writing Workshop – Monday, November 7, 6:00-7:30 pm, Conference Classroom. Established in 1999, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a creative-writing project designed to empower and inspire vibrant creativity among aspiring writers, who are encouraged to write 50,000 words of a novel in the 30 days of November. During this workshop, take advantage of the library’s space, quiet atmosphere, seating, power outlets, and snacks to kick-start your own literary masterpiece! Participants will have an opportunity to share their manuscripts with others and get constructive feedback.

  • Craft: Watercolor Poppies – Wednesday, November 9, 3:00-4:00 pm, Conference Classroom. Celebrate Remembrance Day by painting poppies in watercolor. Participants will receive step-by-step instruction and learn watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet and wed-on-dry. Materials will be provided. Registration is required.

FORT BEND COUNTY LIBRARY CARDS are free to all Texas residents. To apply for a library card, please visit any FBCL location during business hours. You MUST provide a valid photo ID that is not expired (government-issued photo ID, passports from any country, or any state driver license) and a document showing a current address if it is not shown on the photo ID.
