New HAWK Signal Enhances Safety on Mason Road Near Sue Creech Elementary

October 30 2024

Have you noticed the new HAWK signal on Mason Road just south of Sue Creech Elementary? Installed on October 3, this innovative traffic light is here to enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers alike in the Canyon Gate area. HAWK, which stands for High-Intensity Activated crossWalk, helps pedestrians cross busy streets where full traffic signals aren't needed, and it’s already making a difference in communities across the U.S. by reducing pedestrian injuries and fatalities.

For drivers traveling this section of Mason Road, it’s important to understand how the HAWK signal works. When the light is solid red, drivers must come to a complete stop. Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable's Office deputies will be patrolling the area and issuing citations for any violations, so it’s crucial to adhere to the signal and prioritize safety.

Pedestrians, using the HAWK signal is easy! Just push the button and wait for the WALK signal to appear, which may take up to one minute. Always ensure that traffic has stopped before stepping into the crosswalk. With the addition of this HAWK signal, our community is taking important steps toward safer streets for everyone. Let’s all do our part—drive carefully and be mindful of pedestrians as we navigate our roads!
