New Cocktail Lounge PERA Coming to Katy's Peek Road in November From the Couple Behind Drix and Bricco
For Katy residents who remember Drix, Bricco or Midpoint Bar, two familiar names are getting ready to open something new. Zack and Carmen Kuru, the husband-and-wife team behind those former Katy-area establishments, are preparing to open PERA Cocktails and Kitchen in mid-November 2026 at 6845 Peek Road, Suite 210, near Freeman Road.
This time, the couple is going for something smaller and more intimate. PERA will serve handcrafted cocktails, wine, small plates and cheese boards in a setting designed for an evening out with friends, a date night or simply a good conversation over drinks.
The location puts PERA near Elyson and other growing neighborhoods in northwest Katy, where new restaurants and retail businesses are giving residents more options closer to home. And while the area has welcomed plenty of casual dining and fast-food establishments in recent years, the Kurus hope PERA will offer something a little different.
The Katy Couple Behind Drix, Bricco and Midpoint Bar Is Back With Something New
Zack and Carmen Kuru have spent years in the Greater Houston restaurant and bar business. Their previous ventures include Drix, Bricco and Midpoint Bar in Katy, along with BeerForest in The Woodlands.
For longtime Katy residents, those names may bring back memories of dinner with friends, drinks after work or nights out without having to make the drive into Houston.
The couple has experience operating several types of dining and nightlife establishments, but PERA is a concept they've wanted to pursue for years.
“PERA has been a long time coming for us,” said Zack and Carmen Kuru. “We’ve always wanted to create a place that feels special without being formal — a beautiful, comfortable space where people can meet for a cocktail, share a few bites and enjoy good company. After years in the hospitality business, we’re excited to finally bring this vision to life.”
Unlike a full-service restaurant built around a large dinner menu, PERA will put more emphasis on its cocktail and wine offerings, complemented by food meant to be shared. The idea is to create an upscale atmosphere without making guests feel like they need to dress up or plan an elaborate evening to enjoy it.
The new business also has a personal connection to the area. The Kurus call Katy home, raised their two children here and saw both graduate from Taylor High School.
“We’ve spent so many years serving guests in Katy, where we call home and where we raised our two kids, both recent graduates of Taylor High School,” the Kurus said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the relationships we’ve built along the way. Now we’re looking forward to becoming part of another community in West Houston and creating a place people will enjoy returning to.”
What Will Be on the Menu at PERA Cocktails and Kitchen?
Guests can expect a selection of handcrafted cocktails, an extensive wine list and lighter food options, including small plates and cheese boards.
With its intimate setting and thoughtfully crafted drink menu, PERA is intended to be a step up from the typical neighborhood bar without the formality of fine dining. Whether stopping in for a glass of wine after work or meeting friends for cocktails and a few shared plates, guests can expect a welcoming space suited to both casual outings and special occasions.
That could make PERA an appealing addition for residents looking for a cocktail lounge or date-night destination near Elyson, particularly those who would rather stay in northwest Katy than head toward CityCentre or other established Houston dining districts.
The complete food and drink menus, along with the restaurant's operating hours, have not yet been announced.
PERA Joins Other New Restaurants and Businesses Along Peek Road
PERA isn't the only new name associated with the commercial development at 6845 Peek Road.
R&R CraftHouse Grill, a family-owned restaurant with an established location in Cypress, has also been planning a Katy location at 6845 Peek Road, Suite 100.
Known for its mix of American favorites and Cajun-inspired dishes, R&R CraftHouse Grill offers everything from burgers and sandwiches to seafood, gumbo, po'boys and boudin balls. The Katy restaurant had previously been targeting a September 2026 opening, although its current opening status has not been confirmed.
Also joining the development at 6845 Peek Road, Suite 230, is Alchemy Bake Lab, a familiar favorite among Katy residents that has built a loyal local following for its baked goods and sweet treats.
A little farther along the corridor, Culver's opened its Katy location in August 2025, bringing the Wisconsin-based chain's ButterBurgers, frozen custard and cheese curds to the area. The restaurant is operated by Brian and April Spolnicki, who also own the Culver's location in Fulshear.
These additions are part of a noticeable shift in northwest Katy. As neighborhoods such as Elyson and Anniston have grown, more restaurants and service businesses have begun setting up shop along Peek Road and the surrounding major roads.
For residents who have watched new homes, schools and shopping centers take shape over the years, the arrival of more locally owned restaurants is another welcome development. A neighborhood doesn't need another restaurant simply for the sake of having one, but having different kinds of places to eat, meet friends and spend time together is something residents can appreciate.
PERA will bring another option to that growing mix, with a concept that focuses less on a full dinner experience and more on cocktails, wine and conversation.
