Panera Bread Reopens on Katy Freeway October 21 With Free Meals for a Year Giveaway for First 100 Customers

Katy / Fulshear
October 19 2026

For Katy and West Houston residents who have missed stopping by Panera Bread along Interstate 10, there's good news. The familiar bakery-café at 19506 Katy Freeway in Katy is reopening Wednesday, October 21, 2026, more than a year after its unexpected closure left regular customers looking for other places to grab coffee, breakfast or lunch.

To celebrate, Panera is offering an opening-day giveaway that could make getting up early worthwhile. The first 100 dine-in customers who make a purchase will receive a free You Pick Two certificate, redeemable once a month for an entire year. Doors open at 6 a.m., with the grand opening promotion running from 6 to 10 a.m., while supplies last.

The reopening also marks another step in Panera Bread's return to the Katy area. The company's restaurant at 25546 Kingsland Boulevard in Katy reopened on August 5, 2026, bringing back the brand to the community nearly a year after both local cafés closed amid their former franchise operator's bankruptcy.

What to Know About the Panera Bread Grand Opening on October 21

Located near Fry Road on Interstate 10, the returning Panera Bread is convenient for residents of Katy, West Houston and surrounding neighborhoods, as well as commuters traveling along the Katy Freeway.

The grand opening promotion gives the first 100 qualifying dine-in customers a chance to enjoy Panera's popular You Pick Two meal combination once per month for 12 months at no additional cost under the certificate offer.

The You Pick Two menu allows customers to pair eligible selections, including combinations of soups, salads and sandwiches. It's a familiar option for Panera customers who prefer a smaller portion of two favorites rather than ordering a single entrée.

There is no admission charge to attend the grand opening, but customers must make a purchase and dine in to qualify for the giveaway. Certificates are limited to the first 100 qualifying guests, so arriving during the announced promotion hours does not guarantee one. Customers should also check the certificates for specific redemption terms.

With the Katy Freeway restaurant reopening, nearby residents and employees will once again be able to stop in for breakfast, meet someone for lunch or pick up dinner on their way home.

Why Did Panera Bread Close in Katy and West Houston?

The return comes after a difficult period for Panera Bread's Houston-area operations.

In August 2025, customers discovered that the restaurants on Katy Freeway and Kingsland Boulevard had abruptly closed. The two locations were among 15 Greater Houston Panera cafés affected by the financial and legal troubles of former franchise operator EYM Café of Texas LLC.

EYM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on August 2, 2025, reporting liabilities between $10 million and $50 million and assets of less than $50,000. Before the bankruptcy filing, Panera LLC had terminated its franchise relationship with EYM and pursued legal action over allegations involving unpaid royalties, food safety and cleanliness problems, unpaid vendors and unauthorized use of the Panera brand.

The shutdowns left two longtime Katy-area restaurant spaces vacant and raised questions about whether Panera would return to either property.

Those questions began to be answered when Hamra Enterprises, a family-owned restaurant operator based in Springfield, Missouri, acquired seven former EYM-operated Houston-area Panera locations through a November 2025 bankruptcy sale.

Hamra Enterprises purchased seven of the closed Houston-area locations and made plans to reopen them as Panera Bread restaurants under its management.

Kingsland Boulevard Panera Bread Reopened August 5, Welcoming Katy Customers Back

Katy residents have already seen what that return looks like.

On August 5, 2026, Panera Bread officially reopened at 25546 Kingsland Boulevard in Katy, becoming the second Greater Houston café opened by Hamra Enterprises following its Texas debut in Spring on July 16.

The Kingsland Boulevard grand opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Hamra Enterprises CEO Mike Hamra, Katy Mayor William "Dusty" Thiele and members of the Katy High School cheer team. The occasion brought together local leadership, students and restaurant representatives to celebrate the return of a business that had been missing from Katy's dining landscape for nearly a year.

The restaurant also offered its first 100 qualifying dine-in customers a yearlong You Pick Two certificate promotion, similar to the giveaway planned for the October 21 Katy Freeway reopening.

With the Kingsland Boulevard café now operating and the Katy Freeway restaurant preparing to welcome customers, both Katy-area Panera locations affected by the 2025 closures are returning to service.

With the Kingsland Boulevard restaurant already open and the Katy Freeway location reopening October 21, both Katy-area Panera cafés that closed in August 2025 will be back in business.

New Ownership Brings Panera Bread Back to the Houston Area

Behind the reopenings is Hamra Enterprises, a restaurant operator founded by the Hamra family in 1975. The company has operated Panera Bread cafés since 1998 and also manages restaurants under the Wendy's and Noodles & Company brands.

Its expansion into Texas includes seven previously closed Panera Bread locations across Houston, Katy, Spring and Conroe, with the company targeting the end of 2026 to complete the openings.

The expansion represents the largest single-market launch in Hamra Enterprises' history and was expected to create approximately 280 jobs throughout Greater Houston.

Beyond restaurant operations, the company has established a regional partnership with Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana, which grants wishes for children with critical illnesses. Hamra has a history of supporting nonprofit organizations through its restaurant businesses and reports contributing more than $7.2 million to charitable partners nationwide since 1976.

What's on the Menu at the Reopened Katy Freeway Panera Bread?

Customers can expect Panera's familiar bakery-café offerings, including freshly baked breads, bagels, pastries, sandwiches, salads, soups and a selection of hot and cold beverages.

For morning commuters, that could mean picking up coffee and a breakfast sandwich before heading down I-10. At lunchtime, the restaurant offers another place for nearby employees to meet over soup and sandwiches, while families can stop in for a casual dinner without committing to a traditional sit-down restaurant.

Hamra Enterprises previously announced that its returning Houston-area cafés would offer Panera's regular menu along with services such as Rapid Pick-Up, MyPanera loyalty benefits and drive-thru ordering where available.

The reopening restores another breakfast and lunch option along the Katy Freeway near Fry Road, a convenient location for nearby residents, commuters and employees.

Panera Bread Katy Freeway Grand Opening: Date, Address and Giveaway Details

The grand opening takes place Wednesday, October 21, 2026, beginning at 6 a.m. at Panera Bread, 19506 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77094, near Fry Road and Exit 747A.

The opening-day promotion runs from 6 to 10 a.m., while supplies last. The first 100 dine-in guests who make any purchase will receive a complimentary You Pick Two certificate redeemable once per month for one year.

After more than a year of wondering what would become of the shuttered café, Katy and West Houston customers will once again have the opportunity to stop by a familiar neighborhood restaurant.
