New Braunfels Launches Free NB Tool Shed Program to Help Residents Maintain Properties and Strengthen Neighborhood Pride

June 04 2026

For many homeowners, keeping up with routine yard maintenance can be challenging when the right tools aren't readily available. The City of New Braunfels is aiming to remove that barrier with the launch of NB Tool Shed, a new free equipment lending program designed to help residents maintain their properties, comply with city codes, and take pride in their neighborhoods.

The initiative provides eligible residents with access to a variety of commonly used yard maintenance tools, allowing homeowners and neighbors to tackle outdoor projects without the expense of purchasing specialized equipment.

City officials say the program is part of a broader effort to support neighborhood quality of life while helping residents maintain safe, attractive properties throughout the community.

A Practical Resource for New Braunfels Neighborhoods

As New Braunfels continues to grow, maintaining well-kept homes and neighborhoods remains an important priority for residents and city leaders alike. The NB Tool Shed program offers a practical solution for individuals who may not own certain tools, need equipment for a one-time project, or want to help a friend, family member, or neighbor with yard work.

Available equipment includes:

  • Lawn mowers
  • Weed trimmers
  • Leaf blowers
  • Pressure washers
  • Hedge trimmers
  • Extension cords
  • Manual pole saws

All gas-powered tools are provided fully fueled and ready for use, making it easier for residents to begin projects immediately after pickup.

“NB Tool Shed is designed to directly support residents who have limited access to the equipment needed to maintain their property up to city code requirements,” said Christopher Looney, Director of Neighborhood and Community Planning for the City of New Braunfels. “By providing this free resource, the City of New Braunfels continues its commitment to supporting residents and investing in the long-term vitality of our neighborhoods. Additionally, we encourage friends and neighbors to give their fellow residents a hand with yard upkeep when needed. NB Tool Shed is a great resource for this as well!”

How the NB Tool Shed Works

The process is designed to be simple and convenient.

Residents can create a free online account, complete required forms, reserve equipment online, and schedule pickup and return dates.

Tools are available by reservation only and follow a weekly checkout schedule:

Tool Pickup
  • Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • By appointment only
  • Pickup location: Westside Branch Library
Tool Return
  • Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tools must be checked in with library staff
  • Equipment should not be left outside

Residents are responsible for loading and unloading equipment and may need a truck or larger vehicle for some items. The city also recommends bringing an additional person to assist with lifting heavier equipment.

Who Is Eligible?

The free program is available exclusively to residents who live within the official New Braunfels city limits.

City officials note that having a New Braunfels mailing address does not automatically qualify someone for the program. Mailing addresses are assigned by the U.S. Postal Service and do not necessarily align with municipal boundaries.

Residents can verify eligibility using the City of New Braunfels General Reference Map available through the city's website.

The distinction is important because many city-funded benefits and services are available only to residents who live within city limits and contribute through municipal property taxes.

More Than Just Tools

City leaders view NB Tool Shed as more than a lending program. It is also an investment in community appearance, neighborhood stability, and civic pride.

Well-maintained properties can help improve neighborhood aesthetics, reduce code violations, and foster a stronger sense of ownership among residents. The program also encourages neighbors to support one another, whether helping an elderly homeowner trim hedges, assisting a family member with yard work, or tackling a community cleanup project.

The launch of NB Tool Shed joins a growing list of resident benefits offered by the City of New Braunfels, including free library cards, resident river passes, discounted Das Rec memberships, discounted Landa Park Aquatic Complex season passes, and Prince Solms Park sports passes.

What Happens Next

Residents interested in participating can create an account, review program guidelines, and reserve equipment through the City's online portal at newbraunfels.gov/toolshed

As New Braunfels continues to experience rapid growth, programs like NB Tool Shed offer a practical way to help residents maintain their properties while preserving the appearance, character, and sense of community that many families value about living in the Texas Hill Country.

For homeowners looking to complete a weekend project, help a neighbor, or simply keep their yard looking its best, the City's newest resident perk may provide exactly the right tool for the job.
