New Braunfels residents looking to clear out old paperwork before the holidays will have a free shredding option on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026. The City of New Braunfels, in partnership with Shred-It, will host its annual Shred Day from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at City Hall, 550 Landa Street.

The event is for New Braunfels residents. Participants should bring a state-issued ID and a current utility bill to verify eligibility. Because city residency rules can be different from a mailing address, residents who are unsure whether they qualify should verify with the city before making the trip.

How Much Paper Residents Can Bring

Each eligible resident may bring up to three bank-box-sized containers of documents for shredding. The shredding will take place on-site, and cardboard recycling bins will be available for empty boxes.

Vehicles should enter the City Hall parking lot from Wood Road and exit onto Walnut Avenue.

What the City Will Not Accept

The event is intended for paper documents, not general electronics or mixed household materials. The city specifically lists the following items as not accepted:

  • Spiral notebooks
  • Plastic
  • Binders and binder clips
  • Hard drives, CDs and floppy disks
  • Electronics
  • Metal objects
  • Batteries

Why Shred Day Can Be Useful

Secure document shredding gives residents a way to dispose of paperwork containing account numbers, financial information or other personal details without putting intact documents into regular trash or recycling.

Residents who are unsure about city-residency eligibility or accepted materials can contact the City of New Braunfels at 830-221-4000 before attending. The city also provides details through its official Shred Day announcement.
