McCoy’s Building Supply Opens in New Caney, Bringing Jobs, Building Resources and a Longstanding Texas Legacy to Growing Montgomery County

May 04 2026

As New Caney continues to experience rapid residential and commercial growth, a new business along State Highway 242 is aiming to serve the people building that future — from professional contractors and homebuilders to ranchers, homeowners and weekend DIYers.

McCoy’s Building Supply officially opened its newest location at 21989 State Highway 242 in New Caney on Monday, April 20, adding another major retailer to the area’s expanding commercial corridor while bringing with it nearly a century of Texas history and a community-focused business philosophy.

The company will host its official grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Community members are invited to attend the board and ribbon cutting ceremonies, followed by a catered lunch from Casa Julia.

For many residents in New Caney, Porter and surrounding East Montgomery County communities, the opening represents more than another retail addition. The new store arrives as the region continues to see sustained growth in housing developments, infrastructure projects and small business expansion — all driving increased demand for building materials, tools and construction services closer to home.

Whether customers are tackling home renovations, agricultural projects or large-scale construction jobs, McCoy’s says the New Caney location was designed to support both professionals and everyday residents with products, expertise and personalized service.

New McCoy’s Location Designed for Growth Along SH 242

According to permit filings submitted in January 2025, the project included construction of a 25,300-square-foot pre-engineered metal retail building along with two 11,000-square-foot drive-thru canopies equipped with storage racking. The project carried an estimated construction cost of $6 million.

Construction officially began May 5, 2025, with completion listed for March 16, 2026.

The location sits along the increasingly active SH 242 corridor, an area that has become a focal point for commercial investment as population growth continues throughout New Caney and surrounding portions of Montgomery County.

Store hours for the New Caney McCoy’s location are:

  • Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Closed Sundays

That longstanding decision to remain closed on Sundays has become one of the company’s defining cultural practices — something McCoy’s leadership says reflects its commitment to employees and family life even in a competitive retail market.

A Texas Company With Deep Family Roots Since 1927

While the New Caney store is new, the company behind it has roots stretching back nearly 100 years.

McCoy’s Building Supply began in 1927 when founder Frank McCoy moved his family and roofing business from Houston to Galveston, Texas, establishing what would eventually become one of the region’s most recognized family-owned building supply companies.

Over the decades, McCoy’s evolved from a roofing operation into a full-service lumberyard and building supply retailer, expanding across Texas before eventually growing into Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Today, McCoy’s operates 85 retail building supply stores, two millworks facilities and two internal distribution centers across three states, while remaining family-owned through four generations of leadership.

The company’s history includes moments that helped shape its reputation across Texas communities. During the aftermath of Hurricane Carla in 1961, McCoy’s leadership refused to engage in price gouging despite widespread storm damage and high demand for materials — a decision the company still points to as a defining example of its values and customer relationships.

Current President and CEO Meagan McCoy Jones became the fourth generation of family leadership in 2022, succeeding her father, Brian McCoy, who retired after five decades with the company.

In discussing the company’s continued expansion and long-term vision, Jones previously said, “Being a private, family company is an advantage and privilege, and we don’t take that for granted. We continue to invest in upgrading stores, building stores in new markets, and growing our distribution, manufacturing, and delivery service so customers can count on McCoy’s for decades to come.”

Community-Focused Culture a Key Part of McCoy’s Identity

As McCoy’s enters the New Caney market, company leaders say the business continues to center itself around hospitality, customer relationships and community involvement — values they describe as essential to the brand’s identity.

The company’s stated purpose is “To make life easier and more fulfilling for those who build.”

Its core values emphasize hard work, integrity, hospitality, service to others and what the company calls “Ride for the Brand,” a philosophy centered on protecting the company’s culture and ensuring stores remain places where employees know customers by name and ask about the projects they are working on.

That approach may resonate in a fast-growing community like New Caney, where longtime residents and new arrivals alike are watching the area rapidly evolve through new housing, schools, retail development and transportation improvements.

The company also serves a wide range of customer groups including do-it-yourself homeowners, repair and remodeling contractors, independent homebuilders, farmers and ranchers.

For residents, the addition of McCoy’s also means another nearby option for construction materials and home improvement supplies without traveling farther into neighboring commercial centers.

What Happens Next

The official grand opening celebration for McCoy’s Building Supply in New Caney will take place Thursday, May 14, at 11:30 a.m. at the new store located at 21989 SH 242, New Caney, TX 77357.

Community members, local leaders, contractors and residents are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and enjoy lunch afterward catered by Casa Julia.

As East Montgomery County continues to grow, businesses like McCoy’s are increasingly becoming part of the area’s broader story — one centered on development, investment and the continued transformation of communities like New Caney into major regional hubs for families and businesses alike.
