Langham Creek High School Student Earns State Recognition in UIL Costume Design
Langham Creek High School junior Aylin Jernigan earned statewide recognition for her creativity, securing sixth place in Costume Design at the 2025 UIL State Theatrical Design Contest, held May 16–17 in Austin.
The contest, which drew student designers from across Texas, asked participants to develop original visuals for Axoloris: The Musical, a futuristic and family-friendly show. Designers had to integrate elements from a specific art movement while also utilizing innovative technology—an ambitious blend of art history and science fiction.
Jernigan’s costume impressed judges with its imagination and thoughtful execution. As part of a highly competitive field, her work stood out for its originality and attention to detail.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for the imagination, dedication and professionalism they brought to this year’s UIL Theatrical Design Contest,” said Kelley Hughes, Cy-Fair ISD’s fine arts coordinator. “These skills translate across a wide range of creative and technical career paths and serve as an example of how fine arts education prepares students for careers both in and outside of the arts.”
For Jernigan, earning a top-six spot was the result of long hours, bold creativity, and a personal commitment to bringing something original to life. Her costume design stood out not just for its visual impact, but for the heart and thoughtfulness behind it.
It’s moments like these that show how dedication and imagination can carry a young artist to new heights.
