KCM Funding Award Presentation

September 29 2022

Join us for a memorable morning of community partners in action! AMERIGROUP, a health insurance company and a managed health care provider, has the honor to present Katy Christian Ministries the funding necessary to address the capacity building improvements needed at the Community Garden, through the implementation of an irrigation system. The ceremony and unveiling of the new garden sign will take place on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 9am at 3506 Porter Rd, Katy, TX 77493.

The KCM Community Garden, established in 2009, born out of the generosity of Kingsland Baptist Church and sustained by an army of volunteers and community supporters, is mission driven and volunteer powered. The shared objective by Amerigroup and KCM is to build resilient families. Produce harvested from the garden is provided to families to address food insecurity, to break the cycle of poverty by providing gardening educational sessions to children and adolescents, and to provide a therapeutic outlet for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

This irrigation system will alleviate the manual labor currently done by volunteers as they have to become resourceful when watering the garden, utilizing heavy buckets and other means. This initiative will improve on the efficiency of the garden operations where KCM is expecting less produce wasted and will increase the number of families being impacted by the “Sow A Seed, Feed A Family” Garden.

KCM Executive Director, Deysi Crespo, asks for the community to join us and be a part of another milestone for KCM and see the difference one “seed” can make in so many lives.
