Katy Rice Harvest Festival Rice Cooking Contest Winners Announced
Congratulations to the 2023 Katy Rice Harvest Festival Rice Cooking Contest Winners! Twelve entries were judged, with four dishes reigning supreme in the following categories:
- 1st Place (not pictured): Susie Peschke - Spanish Rice
- People's Choice - Donna Johnson- Nana's Rice Casserole
- 2nd Place - Carmen Crystal- Arroz con CoCo
- 3rd Place - Jane Thomas- Raisins and Pecans Rice Pudding
On Wednesday, October 11, the Katy Rice Harvest Festival Cooking Contest was held at the City of Katy Fussell Senior Center, where amateur chefs prepared a dish featuring rice as the primary ingredient. Contestants were judged based on creativity, taste, texture, and overall impression.
The contest was adjudicated by a panel of judges including Chef Casey Castro with Astor Farm to Table, Chef Willie Holmes, and Iris Figueroa with US Rice Producers Association, with the Katy Fussell Senior Center members and attendees serving as the "People's Choice" judges.
