Katy ISD's ‘Food for Families’ Campaign Brings Hope and Groceries to Local Students in Need

October 09 2025

In neighborhoods across Katy, the challenges many families face don’t stop at the school doors. For some students, hunger shadows their daily lives, making it harder to focus, learn, and thrive. But thanks to Katy ISD's Food for Families campaign—now underway through December 9—the community has a chance to step in with tangible, heartfelt support.

Organized by Katy ISD Partners in Education (PIE), Food for Families is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a community-wide effort to let local families know they’re seen, supported, and not alone. The campaign collects donations to fund $75 grocery gift cards, which are hand-delivered to identified families by campus staff members—often accompanied by handwritten notes and messages of encouragement.

“Each gift card is a reminder that someone cares,” said Kelli Price, Elementary Counseling Specialist for Katy ISD. “It's more than a gift card—it’s community. It’s our collective effort and it takes each one of us in order to build that sustainable community and to support the growth of our students and our families.”

Addressing Food Insecurity in Katy ISD

Food insecurity continues to affect students across the district. According to data from Katy ISD, nearly 40% of all students qualify for free or reduced lunch—a key indicator of economic hardship and potential food insecurity. While the school nutrition program provides meals during the day, families often struggle during weekends, holidays, or sudden financial setbacks.

Through Food for Families, schools help bridge that gap. Each campus identifies the families most in need, ensuring donations directly reach those who could benefit most—just in time for the winter holidays.

How to Give

Whether as an individual, a family, or a business, anyone can make a difference. A $75 donation supports one family, but donations of any amount are gratefully welcomed. Giving is simple and accessible:

All contributions are tax-deductible and go directly toward supporting Katy ISD families through the holidays.

A Community Rooted in Kindness

Food for Families is one of many ways Katy ISD builds a culture of compassion beyond the classroom. It’s about more than academics—it’s about helping students thrive emotionally, physically, and socially. With grocery costs remaining high for many households, this initiative arrives at a crucial time.

And for those receiving support, the message is loud and clear: you belong, you are valued, and your community cares.
