Katy ISD Wins 2022 TAEA District of Distinction Award
Katy ISD is one of only 59 school districts across the state to be recognized with the 2022 District of Distinction Award by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA). The District earned the award for providing a well-rounded education that integrates a visual arts curriculum that inspires creativity and builds social-emotional learning to connect learners to their community and beyond.
“It is an honor that Katy ISD is part of the top five percent of districts in the state of Texas to earn such a prestigious accolade this year,” said Assistant Director of Fine Arts Susan Chiboroski. “Earning the TAEA District of Distinction is no small feat. This award recognizes the exceptional work of our visual arts teachers and students, and it highlights the accomplishments, arts advocacy and high level of community engagement we strive for in Katy ISD,” added Chiboroski.
TAEA is the leading advocate for visual arts in Texas. This is the fourth year that TAEA has honored districts that meet rigorous criteria. For the 2022 award, Katy ISD was among more than 1,000 other districts eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation that met a 14-point rubric over the 2021-2022 school year.
Katy ISD will be honored at the TAEA Administration & Supervision Division meeting as part of the TAEA Conference on Thursday, November 10 in McAllen, Texas. The District currently has approximately 51,460 students enrolled in art courses served by 145 certified visual arts teachers.
