Katy ISD Proposed Bond 2023 Package to be Considered by Trustees

May 15 2023

A recommended $840.6M bond package was presented to the Katy ISD Board of Trustees for consideration as part of a November 2023 bond referendum. During the monthly board meeting, the Community Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) Chair, Alejandro Avedano, detailed the hard work of the committee members which included reviewing district-wide critical projects aimed at addressing Katy ISD’s fast growth, aging campus needs, as well as technology, safety and security.  If approved by the Trustees, the November 2023 ballot will include the following four propositions:

Proposition A

New Schools, Purchase of School Sites, Renovations & Expansions for Aging Campuses, Safety & Security, Buses, Building Component Replacements

Proposition B

Classroom & Campus Technology

Proposition C

Natatorium Component Replacements

Proposition D

Campus Athletic Facilities & Rhodes Stadium Repairs

Total Bond: $840.6M

“From the beginning, the goal was to produce a bond package that was based on the needs of our schools and students, and extensive community input,” said Alejandro Avendano, Community Bond Advisory Committee Chair.  “It was also very important that the proposal have no impact on the tax rate,” added Avendano.

Following the presentation by Avendano, the district’s Chief Financial Officer, Christopher Smith, provided an overview of the district’s capacity to support the proposal, noting that the state will be decreasing the school district tax rate, with or without a bond.

Katy ISD Trustees have until August 2023 to call for an election.
