Katy ISD Opens Referral Window for Kindergarten Gifted and Talented Program Screening
The referral window is now open for parents of kindergarten students in the Katy ISD interested in having their children screened for the District’s Gifted and Talented (GT) program, known as the Challenge program.
Until September 19, the parents can complete the referral checklist, which is accessible on My Katy at myapps.classlink.com/home. The Challenge program is utilized by Katy ISD to provide GT services at the elementary level, with kindergarten students receiving a dedicated 60-minute weekly instruction tailored towards enhancing their creativity and productive thinking skills.
Danielle Sanchez, the Director of Gifted & Talented and Advanced Academics in Katy ISD, commented on the importance of the GT program. “Katy ISD is a community of learners," she said, "and our GT program offers the necessary support for our students who require tailored instruction. By referring kindergarten students for screening, parents can ensure that their students receive this support early in their education."

The process to identify students for GT services includes gathering multiple indicators such as information from parents and teachers, along with standardized test scores. The screening of students is scheduled to take place from October through February, and services for those identified will commence in March 2025.
Parents seeking further information or having inquiries are advised to contact their student’s counselor. More details about the process can also be found in Katy ISD’s Kindergarten GT service website.
