Katy ISD Launches Innovative Teacher Alternative Certification Program to Support Prospective Educators
Home to one of only five school district programs in the state, Katy ISD has launched its own teacher alternative certification program, Katy ISD TEA+CH, and is inviting prospective educators to apply.
Candidates can work toward receiving their Core Subjects EC-6 or Core Subjects 4-8 certification, and are guaranteed placement at a Katy ISD school upon successful completion of their coursework.
“We are truly making an investment in our teachers,” said Katye Shields, Educator Preparation Program and Recruitment Coordinator for Katy ISD. “As part of the program, we’ll ensure that we provide these candidates with the best learning experiences we have here in the District.”
Participants agree to a semester of coursework, completed January through June, and a year-long paid internship where they will be hired at a Katy ISD school.
The total cost for participation in the program is $3,000, and candidates will also be financially responsible for test fees, fingerprinting and other program-related costs. For candidates who successfully complete the program and sign a two-year teaching commitment with Katy ISD, a refund of $1,500 will be granted.
Applications will be accepted until December 1, or until the cohort capacity, 100 members, is reached. The application will open in June 2025 for the next cohort.
The District will be holding several virtual information sessions in August and those interested in attending can register here. Visit the Katy ISD TEA+CH website to learn more.
