Katy ISD Junior High No. 18 to Honor Nelson Family Namesake
The Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the naming of Junior High #18 during their December Regular Board meeting. The campus will officially be named Nelson Junior High.
The Nelson family history spans across five generations in the Katy area. Over that time, family members have graduated from Katy ISD, served on the Board of Trustees, been deeply involved in various district programs such as FFA, and their active involvement in the community has helped our schools flourish.
Their connection to the land that Nelson Junior High is being built on today is unique, having purchased the land generations ago from a beloved Katy ISD schoolteacher. In fall 2024, Nelson Junior High will welcome eager and passionate learners and educators, creating a storybook link between the past and the future.
This marks an exciting time for future generations of families, offering them the incredible opportunity to become torchbearers in honor of their school’s namesake. The legacy of the Nelson family will continue to inspire and shape the educational journey for those who call Nelson Junior High their home for years to come.
"Having played a pivotal role in shaping the community that we know today, the Nelson family’s legacy is deeply entwined with the history of Katy. Five generations of the Nelson family have resided in Katy — contributing to its economic and social development," said Victor Perez, Katy ISD Board President. “I look forward to seeing all of the great work and accomplishments that will be achieved by the Nelson school community when the school opens next fall,” added Perez.
