Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo Set to Kick Off in February

January 24 2023

Making another much-anticipated return to the Katy community, the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo will kick off on February 14. Beginning with livestock shows, the KFLSR will open to the public at the Gerald D. Young Agricultural Sciences Center on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 PM. The Rodeo will run for three consecutive days, starting at 7:00 PM each day with a parade on February 18 at 9:30 PM. This year, the parade theme will be "80 Years of Excellence!" and Cora Lee Davis will be the Parade Marshal.

The Katy Rodeo has been a long-standing symbol in Katy, and an integral part of Katy's history since 1943. Due to this historical influence, the rodeo committee has witnessed generous support from the Katy community and surrounding areas for the rodeo and parade; this support is deeply valued and graciously appreciated by the committee volunteers as they strive to provide a great rodeo event year after year.

This rodeo supports agricultural education within the Katy Independent School District and is held in conjunction with the school district's annual FFA livestock show. From bull riding to barrel racing, calf roping to Mutton Bustin, and livestock shows to agricultural mechanics show, there's something for everyone. With a carnival, parade and plenty of delicious food, this rodeo is the perfect place for families to enjoy the time-honored rodeo tradition while supporting students in KISD.

Each year, KFLSRA donates an average of $65,000 to Katy ISD FFA chapters and Special Needs Rodeo. In addition, the 2023 KFLSRA scholarship rewards students for their involvement in project work, leadership and career development, the community, and various other individual and team activities. Applications closed at midnight on January 15, 2023. Last year's scholarship recipients included Zoe BeDell from Taylor High School and Lauren Sapp from Cinco Ranch High School.

The rodeo could not be successful without the cooperation of other Katy area organizations operating the carnival (Lions Club), concession stands (Knights Of Columbus), Ticket Stands (VFW) and parade volunteers.
