Katy Christian Ministries Appoints Virginia Gonzalez as Interim Executive Director

December 10 2024

Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) has announced the appointment of Virginia Gonzalez as its Interim Executive Director, effective immediately. Gonzalez, who brings over 17 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and expertise in civil and criminal justice systems, succeeds Deysi Crespo, who stepped down on October 28, 2024, after nearly 17 years of service. Gonzalez will now guide KCM through a critical transition period while continuing to build on the foundation established by Crespo’s leadership.

Crespo’s tenure, which began in 2007 and culminated in her role as Executive Director in 2014, was marked by substantial growth and expansion for KCM. Under her leadership, the organization grew five-fold over the past decade, now employing more than 50 staff members, operating across four locations, and offering a wide range of services to 13 zip codes in the Katy and West Houston area. Crespo’s legacy is one of transformation and service, including the establishment of KCM’s 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator and recognition from several other organizations for its impactful work.

With Gonzalez now at the helm, KCM is poised to build on this legacy and continue its mission of transforming lives through God’s grace and the generosity of the community. "I am thrilled to become a part of the KCM family," Gonzalez said in her introductory statement. "With a deep commitment to delivering high-quality services and support to those in need, I feel fortunate to collaborate with an exceptional team that has established Katy Christian Ministries as a leader in the nonprofit space."

Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and has built a diverse career that includes extensive experience in victim advocacy, organizational restructuring, and community engagement. Her leadership philosophy focuses on servant leadership, which emphasizes transparency, professional development, and recognition for all stakeholders. “It is crucial that our employees, volunteers, clients, and partners feel valued and engaged in the process,” Gonzalez emphasized, signaling her intention to foster a supportive and inclusive environment at KCM.

Over the next 90 days, Gonzalez plans to conduct a comprehensive analysis of KCM’s operations to assess the effectiveness of current initiatives and identify areas for improvement. By collaborating closely with the team, she aims to strengthen existing programs and ensure that KCM continues to grow in a sustainable and efficient manner. “I am committed to working together with the KCM team to optimize our services and ensure that we continue to make a meaningful impact in the community,” Gonzalez said.

The Board of Directors expressed confidence in Gonzalez’s ability to lead the organization forward. "Virginia’s extensive experience and passion for service make her an excellent choice to guide KCM through this transitional period," said Don Flowers, Chair of the Board of Directors. “We are excited to see where her leadership will take us and look forward to the continued success of KCM under her guidance.”

Founded in 1984 by a coalition of nine Katy-area churches, KCM has evolved from a small food pantry and thrift store into a vital community resource, serving individuals and families through programs such as its Food Pantry, Social Services, Crisis Center, and Resale Shop, as well as 20 sub-programs. The organization operates across four locations and continues to work closely with 65 coalition churches, business partners, and volunteers to meet the growing needs of the Katy area.

As KCM moves forward under Virginia Gonzalez’s leadership, the organization is poised to continue its mission of alleviating poverty, providing immediate and long-term crisis intervention, and building stronger, more resilient communities in Katy and the surrounding areas.
