Katy Area Teens: Ignite Your Potential at HCESD48's Camp Spark This Summer

February 07 2024

Get ready to ignite your potential! Harris County ESD No. 48 Fire Department (HCESD48) is set to host their 3rd annual Camp Spark this summer. From June 10 to 13, 2024, a group of 25 female students aged 14-18 will be given the opportunity to experience life as a Firefighter and/or EMS professional, right here in Katy.

Registration will officially open on March 8, 2024, aligning with the celebration of International Women’s Day. In line with the spirit of the day, Camp Spark aims to inspire young women, offering them a glimpse into careers where they can truly make a difference.

Camp Spark is more than just a camp; it's a life changing experience full of discovery. Participants will engage in physical training, attend classes, and take part in Fire/EMS simulations. They also get the unique opportunity to interact and train with female firefighters and medics from HCESD48 and other Greater Houston Area departments.

This year, Camp Spark is proud to welcome back Mrs. Colorado 2021 Danette Haag, a motivational guru, wife, mom of four, registered nurse, and recipient of the 2019 Northern Colorado Woman of Courage award. Through her "Beauty from Ashes" program, Danette shares her life-altering experience of a severe burn injury, empowering others to see their inherent beauty and the life's blessings even amidst pain.

In the 2023 installment of Camp Spark, Danette presented her program "Unstoppable" during a bonus day for the participants. Designed to help teen girls see their incredible value and inspire them to live a full life, this impactful program empowers girls to take ownership of their worth, despite the obstacles. Danette is passionate about sharing all she has learned from walking with courage, healing her soul, and redefining her beauty, a mission that aligns closely with the ethos of Camp Spark.
