Jason’s Deli in Fairfield Donates 20% of Sales to Barkley’s Bookshelf on August 31

August 28 2025

Inwood Park residents have a chance to make Sunday dinner even more meaningful. On Sunday, August 31, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Jason’s Deli in Fairfield will donate 20% of sales to Barkley’s Bookshelf, a Northwest Houston nonprofit dedicated to improving children’s literacy.

Whether dining in, carrying out, or ordering online, participation is simple. Just mention Barkley’s Bookshelf at checkout, or if ordering online, use the code FUND20.

Funds raised will help the nonprofit purchase new books, totes, and bookmarks for its school book fairs, where children select titles to begin or grow their very own personal libraries.

Why This Cause Matters

Research consistently shows that when children are able to choose and keep books of their own, their literacy rates and enthusiasm for reading increase significantly. That belief is at the core of Barkley’s Bookshelf’s work in the community.

The organization’s vision is clear: Every child is a reader, and every child is a book owner.

Its mission is equally impactful: Enriching children’s love of reading by providing books that they can call their own.

About Barkley’s Bookshelf

Founded in 2022 by President and Founder Brenda Polivka, Barkley’s Bookshelf is powered by a team of women passionate about literacy and children’s welfare. In just two years, the nonprofit has distributed more than 7,100 free books to children across Northwest Houston who otherwise might not have access to reading resources outside of school.

The organization partners with local nonprofits and Title I schools, including Cy-Hope, Cy-Fair Helping Hands, and Boys and Girls Country, to ensure books reach children who need them most.

With a career spanning over 25 years in nonprofit leadership, Polivka has made children’s causes—especially literacy—a lifelong calling. Her vision drives Barkley’s Bookshelf forward: to foster a love of reading that lasts a lifetime.

How to Get Involved

Inwood Park families are invited to make a difference this weekend by simply enjoying a meal. Every salad, sandwich, or bowl of soup purchased on August 31 helps Barkley’s Bookshelf continue its work to inspire young readers.
