Harris County to Host Community Workshops for Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

October 08 2024

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is organizing a series of community workshops aimed at updating the Harris County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This initiative is essential for meeting federal requirements, as the current plan is set to expire in July 2025.

Harris County is vulnerable to various natural hazards, including flooding, hurricanes, tropical storms, wildfires, and tornadoes. These hazards can threaten public safety, damage property, disrupt the local economy, and impact the overall quality of life for residents. While complete elimination of these risks is not feasible, hazard mitigation planning aims to identify strategies that can reduce their impact.
