Harris County Public Library Extends Checkout Period
Starting October 3, Harris County Public Library will implement a new renewal policy aimed at enhancing your library experience by extending the time you can keep items you've checked out. The change will also reduce the need for library staff to manually renew checkouts for patrons and ensure more fair access to materials for all library users.
The current policy that items with holds cannot be renewed will not change, so the new policy will not affect popular, high-demand books. Only items that other library patrons have not placed holds on can be renewed. Similarly, DVDs can still only be renewed once. The existing automatic renewal process will continue to renew eligible items automatically 3 days before the due date.
-
Patrons can now renew checked-out items up to 5 times, compared to the previous limit of 2 renewals.
- The loan period for items can be extended to up to 12 weeks, instead of the previous 6-week limit.
- Automatic renewals will continue to be processed 3 days before the due date.
