Get Inside Look at Harris County Constable Precinct 5 Operations with Citizens Police Academy This September

August 21 2024

Enrollment is now open for the Citizens Police Academy, a highly engaging program provided by the Harris County Constable Precinct 5, as announced by Constable Ted Heap. The Academy, reputed for its comprehensive and transparent approach to law enforcement training, runs for ten weeks and gives citizens a rare glimpse into the life of a deputy.

Participants, referred to as 'cadets', receive hands-on experience and insight into Precinct 5's operations, undergoing extensive training similar to that of the deputies. The course is designed to foster open, informative discussions, covering a wide range of topics such as use-of-force, arrests, firearms training, and handling patrol cars on an emergency vehicle operations course.

Throughout the program, 'cadets' are exposed to the practicalities of making an arrest, dealing with impaired drivers, as well as live scenarios to test their shooting skills using official police firearms. This immersive experience provides an understanding of the dutiful training and commitment undertaken by deputies to protect the Harris County communities.
